I am currently watching someone, who has never harmed anyone, die a slow, distressing, and horrendously cruel death. How does that equate with a compassionate God?

Truthabounds //But what you all fail to realise, or accept, is that God WILL remove the pain and suffering and for those who have already died, he has promised a resurrection WITHOUT pain and suffering, to a world where there is only peace. Satan will removed.//

How utterly bizarre. In this statement we see proof that religion is indeed a political animal. During elections we are fed all manner of promises that are well beyond the capacity to be met. Religion promises eternal happy life. Hard to top that.

But like in politics the actual performance of those in government bears minimal resemblance to the promises made before the election. Once again religion trumps the field. The payoff only comes when you are dead! Little hard to complain to authorities when the everlasting life is not delivered as paid for an promised.

And again religion take the extreme position in claiming past performance of the party. One leader could bring the dead back to life for God's sake. They then have the whole evidence based on events just beyond the dawn of history so that it is quite impossible verify the claims.

Oh how a modern political party would like to claim it could do miracles. Actually they do don't they?

Beso, I don't think Truthabounds is only talking about after death. He's claiming his God will remove the pain and suffering in this life too - but, of course, we all know that doesn't happen.

Boxy, thank you very much. Hugs are most welcome right now.
No Naomi you misunderstand. TruthRebounds' God will give store credits for previous suffering endured before He got around to kicking out Satan, which of course He could have done at any time.

Oh, right. Lucky old us!
Naomi, I hope you will forgive me for not being a little more circumspect at this moment of need in your life.

On the other hand I think I have known you long enough to suspect that you have already come to terms with the temporary nature of existence.

Nothing to forgive, Beso.
The passage of life brings many events where we are faced with the inevitable subject of mortality.

While religions focus on the dream of an afterlife the rest of us get on with celebrating the life of the person we knew.
Question Author
There seems little point in doing otherwise. Sensible people don't live their lives waiting to die.

Thanks Birdie. I've seen cancer many times, but this .... no one deserves this.

//He's claiming his God will remove the pain and suffering in this life too//

No. I am not. God will not remove the pain and suffering in this life. He can give us strength to bear it but he will not remove it.

Beso

If you are referring here to organised religion, catholicism, anglican, - then yes. But I am not referring to the mainstream religions. I believe that the time will come when all these religions, including islam, hindu, budhist etc will be removed. Prior to God's war of Armageddon these false religions will be removed. God has already judged them and found them wanting in respect of the bloodshed etc. they have been involved in.

In fact, in some lands, you can already see indications that religion is becoming an irritant to political leaders, including UN.

Truthabounds, //God will not remove the pain and suffering in this life. He can give us strength to bear it but he will not remove it.//

Which takes us back to the question. Where's the compassion?
i dont want to get involved, but just want to point out that during life bad and good things happen. Its funny how when a good thing happens you rarely thank god, when something bad happens, its all "where is god?".

strange.
Question Author
I neither thank him nor blame him- but when people prattle on about him creating everything and tell me how loving and compassionate he is - and then deny he's responsible for anything bad - it's pretty galling.
Naomi - What do you consider is compassion?

Truthabounds, From something that allegedly has the ability to do anything it wants to do, it might at least offer some relief from pain, distress, and discomfort. And actually, a little more thought wouldn’t have gone amiss when it decided that creating these appalling diseases was a good idea. If you tell me God sympathises with the plight of the sick, all I can say is a fat lot of good that does. It seems to me that your God does sweet Fanny Adams.
lightbulb247 //i dont want to get involved, but just want to point out that during life bad and good things happen. Its funny how when a good thing happens you rarely thank god, when something bad happens, its all "where is god?". //

It is even funnier how some believers thank God for all the good but don't attribute anything of the bad to God.

At least the really serious devotees say that we just don't understand God's paln when He makes grandma suffer in agony for several days before she passes. Before modern drugs many must have died in agony.

Atheists say that on the balance of evidence there is no god at all. There is certainly no caring God. Indeed the hideous violent Hebrew God of Abraham is one of the worst things that ever contaminated human development.
//It is even funnier how some believers thank God for all the good but don't attribute anything of the bad to God. //

Just shows how much you actually know about Islam. Whenever something bad happens, Muslims always believe it is a test of god. Death is a natural process. We all die in the end.
and no God is going to save you ^
Beso //Indeed the hideous violent Hebrew God of Abraham is one of the worst things that ever contaminated human development.//

Wrong! The one who contaminated humans is Satan the Devil. He is the God of this System of things. -
1 John 5 v 19 "We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the [power of the] wicked one."
2 Corinithians 4 v 4 " among whom the god of this system of things has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, that the illumination of the glorious good news about the Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine through"
1 Timothey 4 v 1 "However, the inspired utterance says definitely that in later periods of time some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to misleading inspired utterances and teachings of demons,"

God is not to blame for the enormous suffering that has existed for so long. Part of the blame must be placed on humans. “They have acted ruinously, they have acted detestably in their dealing.” (Psalm 14:1) Our first parents were given everything good as a start. All that was required for such to continue was obedience to God, but Adam and Eve chose to pursue independence from God. Since our first parents pulled away from God, they would no longer be sustained as perfect by him. They would deteriorate until death overtook them. Imperfection has been passed on to us.—Genesis 3:17-19; Romans 5:12.

In addition, even though many terrible things have been done in the name of God or of Christ, there is nothing in the Bible to suggest that either of them has ever approved of such actions. God and Christ have nothing to do with those who claim to serve them but who cheat and swindle, kill and plunder, and do many other things that cause human suffering. In fact, “the way of the wicked one is something detestable to Jehovah.” God “is far away from the wicked ones.”—Proverbs 15:9, 29
