Apparently we can't blame God for the ills of this world and we must be grateful to him for the good in the world- but I don't see him doing anything at all - so what does he actually 'do'?

Khandro, just read some proper books written by authors with real qualifications and try to see beyond your preconceptions. Your attempts to make everything fit your world view just blind you to what is obvious to most people.

Please identify these "proper books written by authors with real qualifications", that you think I have missed, which will enable me to drag myself from the miasma you appear to think I am in.
God comforts, especially in times of distress.
It is comforting to know that there is a Person not tainted by our weakness and fear, who reminds us that He is our cause, our purpose and our destiny.
I believe we can know Him through prayer and meditation, and rise above the apparent pettiness and arrogance of this world.
So that is what He does.
