Who created the Universe?
41 Answers
Creation myths and stories of gods emanate from the four corners of the earth, so why believe tales from desert tribesmen of the middle east rather than, say, those of the the ancient Chinese or the Hindu people?

Personally I believe in the scientific explanation but, in this case, only because of the reputation it has with me of explaining other things - as I believe it can never be proven as to how the universe was created.

There is no "who" necessary to create the Universe.
This universe and an essentially infinite number of other universes is an inevitable consequence of a the impossibility of the existence of nothing.
An infinite Nothing in a random omniverse would required a highly ordered arrangement. Universes exist because they can and as such must.

Hindus do not believe in a universe with a beginnng... it's always been and always will be, but with modifications... as far as the "Chinese"... "Pan Gu is the creator of the universe in Chinese myth Legend. He created the world.
In the beginning, the universe was like a big egg. Inside was darkness chaos. After a long, long time, a giant was born in the egg-shaped space. His name was Pan Gu. Pan Gu slept for 18,000 years. He woke up and opened his eyes, but he could see nothing; he wanted to stretch, but his limbs hit the walls around him; he tried to stand up, but he bumped his head against the ceiling of the egg-shaped space.
Pan Gu began to kick and knock around until he broke the shell and stuck out his head and upper body. He looked around and still saw nothing but darkness. He kicked and knocked again until the substance of darkness began to break up. As a result, the light and clear substance started to float upward to form the sky and the dark and muddy substance began to sink to the bottom to form the earth. Pan Gu was in between, his head against the sky and his feet upon the earth. Fearing that the sky and the earth would come together and form the chaotic darkness again, Pan Gu decided to stay between the sky and the earth until the world became permanently separate. His body began to grow at the speed of ten feet a day. As he grew taller and taller, the sky and the earth were pushed farther and farther apart. Eventually Pan Gu became a giant 90,000 miles tall. Thus the sky and the earth were 90,000 miles apart. Pan Gu was sure that they would never have a chance to come together again..." (He died trying to keep the sky and earth separate and his remains provided the elements to make th eearth habitable...) (Source: Ancient Texts - Confucianism)
What 'desert tribesmen'?
'Infinite Nothing... highly ordered'? Unique concept...

I wonder if there are any Christian's on these sites as I only ever see sceptical comments and nobody ever defends their belief in a Creator God. I am prepared to stand up and declare that I am a Christian - that is to say I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.
I expect an outpouring of scorn but am prepared for it as it was always and always will be so. It would be interesting to hear from anyone else who is also a Christian believer. I expect most of them may be finding more productive things to do with their time than sit in front of a computer. However, as I am doing this myself, maybe there is someone else out there somilarly engaged. X

If people stick to Gods word, people would not be left without a basis for faith? No, for Paul said: “[God] did not leave himself without witness in that he did good, giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts to the full with food and good cheer.” (Acts 14:17) Indeed, to honesthearted ones who are willing to open their minds and hearts to the evidence , yes that God’s “invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they [those who deny God] are inexcusable.”—Romans 1:20.
I think i am a christian, i do not go to church but believe that being a good person to others and animals around you is what the bible was preaching. I do think it is very strange that all people from all over the globe have some sort of belief in a god. Who created the earth is split between religion and science.
neither can be seen as being flawless. the big bang, suddenly, fire and brimstone, planets emerge, the earth forms, water appears, suddenly life starts, evolution occurs and here we are trying to understand it. Thats all the bible says, in the begining was the word etc. and god created the earth. if you were born 2000 years ago, you would think that this quotation is the equivilent of the cerne reactor thing. we are non the wiser now.
or are we?

percypineapple@ Bible is described God as “the Ancient of Days.” (Daniel 7:9) He controls time with perfect precision, as is evident in the function of many of his creations, from the rotation of planets to the movement of subatomic particles. He has his own timetable to which he sticks with exactness. “He decreed the appointed times and the set limits of the dwelling of men,” says the Bible. (Acts 17:26)
And the Bible gives specific attention to chronology. It provides a connected record that allows for a methodical count back to the beginning of human history. Such a calculation points to 4026 B.C.E. as the year in which God created Adam. Some 2,000 years later, Abraham was born. Another 2,000 years had elapsed by the time of Jesus’ birth.
Some who study Bible chronology have formulated arbitrary equations that point to specific dates in the future. For example, using as a basis the consecutive periods of approximately 2,000 years that separated Adam, Abraham, and Jesus, some predict a portentous event at the end of the 2,000-year period since Jesus’ birth. This is just one example of several time formulas that are purportedly based on Bible chronology.
So, the Bible talks about the time when God will intervene in human affairs by removing badness and ushering in a new world. Bible prophecy speaks of “the time of the end,” “the conclusion of the system of things,” “the last days,” (Daniel 8:17; Matthew 24:3; 2 Timothy 3:1; 2 Peter 3:12) So you should be wiser.

goodlife, can I ask you a question which has nothing to do with religion and I presume you have the perspicacity to answer with yes or no. Of course you may have the mindset of a politician and be incapable of giving such an answer, but please try. If you read an article in a newspaper or magazine and the article was full of contradictions, would you accept it as the truth? As this is nothing to do with religion your answer doesn't require any quotes from the bible.
