Why Convert To Rc ?

I watched the exposé of the Vatican last night .Silence in the House of God,
which was shocking in the extreme but afterwards, I thought why have over 1000 parishioners and 60 Anglican clerics joined the RC Church in the past two years.
If you asked these same people . Would you join an organisation that supports and protects paedophiles ? We know what their answer would be be but that is precisely what they are doing.

People convert because the Anglican church is heading towards accepting Gay marriage and already has women priests , as simple as that. They can not even see or think about anything other. Over 90% of the converts are female and 'straight'. The same people (House of Laity) who overturned the proposal to allow women bishops in the Anglican Church, despite...

The bells ! The bells ! - funny dresses, holy water
singing, incense, prayers in Latin no one now understands
I am amazed more don't quite honestly.
Vote Pope in your next election ! [No need to join]
and geezer has a point: the results in RC skools are generically better they say.
As for being swayed by telly exposes: did you see the one Churchill was a cross dressing Nazi fascisti ? How on earth did he win the war ?

mikey // why do they believe in such errant nonsense in the first place ? //
Many people need the crutch of religion to cope with life, but being as they have the choice of thousands why choose RC. especially now in this age of information. Why choose a religion that has barely changed since the days of the Borgias and the Inquisition.

These people don't need a church, they need help from the psychiatric profession if they can't cope with life without believing in patently obvious drivel. All religions are invented, and the Roman Catholic religion is no exception.
But if you are determined to escape reality, than it might just as well be the RC's. After all, they are the original Christian church.

//What has all that got to do with this thread? Have you even read any of it. Do you just post random bits of scripture on every thread in R&S.//
chrisgel @ No, but if those ancient men had such faith and did not get the fulfillment of the promises, true Christians today should show a greater faith. (Heb. 11:13)but you lot can see the seagull.

The CofE has always been somewhat 'ornate' it started as RC with a few doctrinal changes and a different leadership.
The Oxford Movement in the 19th Century brought it even closer to Catholicism.
But in recent years there has been an increasing liberalism in it, women priests, soon probably women bishops, tolerance of homosexuality etc.
Even Folk services and guitar-playing!
There are those who dislike this trend and like their religion gold-plated with lots of ceremony and these people have found a ready home in the Catholic church.
Tony Blair is an interesting example - it was a bit of an open secret he was as near Catholic as makes no odds but had he converted whilst still PM we'd have ended up with a Catholic PM selecting Anglican bishops!
I think for most that the paedophile issues are seen by many as a few isolated cases of issues in a church of about a billion

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'isolated' but we now know it is world wide and runs into several 1000s of reported cases. The majority are never reported. What is more for every paedophile priest there are all those who aided and abetted them and even more who covered it up.
Including the cardinals and the popes.

I didn't say I agree with that I said that's the way I think may see it.
Of course you have to take it in the context of all the abuse prosecutions and investigations going on now post-Saville
there is a difference of course in that thr RC church seem to have actively and systematically decided to deal with such occurances in their own way without involving the law.
This is somewhat familliar to the way that ecclesiastical courts used to work in the middle ages, college courts worked at Oxford and Cambridge in the 18th cenutury and court martials work today.
There was clearly a belief that they were entitled to operate their own law outside the legal system which was completely unacceptable

You lot are you being helped, or are you being hurt? Is your problems being solved, or are they being made worse? By what? By what you see. Yes, the Bible teachings can greatly affect your life, for better or for worse.
