Are Atheists Unsure And Worried?

According to some of the religious people here, the reason atheists argue religion is because they ‘are not sure and are a bit worried’ (Keyplus’ words). Religion is an option available to all – atheists choose to reject it. What then, do those who say this think we are unsure or worried about? The question has been asked several times on different threads, but as far as I’m aware, no one has given their reasons for thinking that. Can someone please explain?

Barney, daft eh? If I hadn’t specified the origin of the question, I’d have been inundated with demands to do so – and requests for a link to the appropriate thread to prove it. That coming from Khandro doesn’t surprise me in the least. It’s the best he can do – but I still don’t know why he thinks it relates to my alleged ‘obsession’ with atheism. See what I mean? No answer to that. ;o)
There you go….didn’t I say that they are not sure and are worried. So much so that Naomi could not resist the temptation of creating another thread. First of all Naomi’s biggest worry is that why so far she has been unable to push me (or scare me off) out of this website even with the help of a huge brigade of theists who would say well said Naomi after ever single word of her. Moral support that is know as.

Then that is personal thing so I am not worried that what her worry is. But this question is about my words she has quoted and I always stand by my words. So let me explain why I believe that. I said that as a response to the thread posted about that why atheists are always talking about religion when they do not believe in any? And that question shows bit of a hypocrisy among FEW atheists here. Few says that we don’t care what people believe as long as they do not push that down my throat, but then they do that to others (THEISTS OF COURSE) day in day out in the name of intelligence and rationalism. Whereas yes I agree with LIGHTBULB that a well known slogan of atheists stupidity=religious and intelligence=atheism is nothing but arrogance. But personally why would I call it “worry” and not arrogance?

You see, there are two types of worries I am talking about, human are made up of two things body and soul and I know few would say just at this point What soul? And that is my point. Now we people do everything from diet, vitamins, gym to so many thing and list is long, to look after our body and do never ever anything to look after our soul. Now a doctor may call it say, subconscious, or brain activity etc but when your soul is not satisfied then you become worried, anxious, and that is known as depression in simple words. Different people go to their GP with all different kind of symptoms and GP always come up with one word, depression or anxiety. Now my question is that did you know that you had depression until you went to see your GP? May be, or maybe not as you might have thought it a physical condition but it isn’t it is how your brain has acted upon certain small worries, glitches etc that you never thought of as they might be things very minor in your mind but not in your subconscious. Now remember that please.

Exactly same way God has given everyone of us an inbuilt way of thinking about the satisfaction of the soul. You may push that soul away and put yourself into material world and forget all about it. In other words you might have made your soul redundant but just as you become depressed ABOUT WOLDLY THINGS without you knowing about it same way your soul becomes and makes you a little bit restless when you do not satisfy it. And satisfaction of the soul comes only if you believe in it and listen to your heart. Just as medicine works better if you believe it would work and even science agrees with that and they call it placebo effect.

Finally, when I say that atheists are worried and are not sure, I really mean that their souls are worried and keep them thinking into looking for the truth without them knowing about it. And that is a good thing. That is the reason Quran speaks about seeking knowledge and about looking for the truth. Quran is the only religious book that asks people to go and seek knowledge. But the only problem is that when you seek knowledge then you need to have an open mind otherwise you would engulf yourself in believing what you would always wanted to believe.

Now lets see how many read what I said with open mind.
I think some are and some aren't...the same as people who believe in god.
You see the difference between an "atheist" and a "theists" is not more than just "a". And I missed that in my first paragraph.
btw mikey, the answer to your question is that angels don't dance but if they did, it would depend on how big the head of the pin was.
///Now lets see how many read what I said with open mind. ///

That's a bit rich considering that it wasn't written with one...
What is funny is that many atheists become locked into an eternal battle with people who are religious wasting vast amounts of time, energies and resources trying to dispel their beliefs which really is a futile practice. One has to often wonder what drives a normally sane person to be like this? mental illness or maybe they suffer from a severe case of ocd and the "ooh i have to be right and make you realise i'm right" syndrome.
I don't worry about anything that doesn't affect me directly, whether it be religion, pollution or climate change, life is too short. I just get on with my life quietly without hurting or inconveniencing anyone else.

Wishful thinking again, but the reality is that it's not really a hardship or a waste of time. These debates are enjoyable.
As usual keyplus pretends that those of his faith are just going abut their own business and not pushing their beliefs down anyone's throats.

However we know that Islam actively promotes the idea that it is the duty of all devotees to work towards changing the society in which they live to follow Sharia Law and honour the teachings of Mohammed.

Mohammed also taught that it is fine to lie and cheat provided that it is for the advancement of his cult. That is exactly what keyplus does here.

When called to explain the obviously unsavory parts of Islam he lies or avoids answering the question.
I have no expectation of changing the views of the faithful. For most of them their minds are already irretrievably poisoned.

However there are many other people who are questioning the supposed wisdom of the religion they grew up with. Any who read here will benefit from the debate.
beso; When it comes to things being "unsavory" no one need look any farther than you obnoxious posts.

Ands this is a gathering of the atheist flock? Hmm, sounds a bit churchy!
keyplus //Quran is the only religious book that asks people to go and seek knowledge. But the only problem is that when you seek knowledge then you need to have an open mind otherwise you would engulf yourself in believing what you would always wanted to believe. //

And when that found knowledge contradicts what is in the Qu'ran? The Moslem does not have the choice of adopting the alternative. The punishment for turning away from the faith is death.

So much for encouraging an open mind.

The only open mind that the Abrahamic religions want is one completely open so that everythng falls out allowing them to refill it with their dogma.
You may find my posts "obnoxious".

The religious are often uncomfortable when confronted with the stark reality of their faith.
The reason I argue with religionists is that I want them all to feel the wonderful relief when the burdens and scales fall away from them. See clearly, think for yourself, cast off the weight of superstition, scripture, guilt, restrictions, dogmas. Be free. I felt so good when I at last managed to chuck away all this dross, that I want everyone to feel the same wonderful freedom.
I am not the least worried or unsure.
What on earth would I feel worried or unsure about, anyway ?
Atlanta - That very freedom is what the religionists are afraid of. They think of their religion as a big club and the thought of not being in the club and being out in the world on their own frightens them.
Being raised in religion means never having to develop your own standards and morals. Why waste time thinking about what's right and wrong when you have an instruction manual.
Worried that the religious aren't listening? Unsure if you are being ignored?

I find it a bit of a turn off when people go preachy, whether that be religious based or atheist based. It is generally the same few atheists that come along to join the flock and agree amongst themselves and seek common assurance that "its ok not believe right?" and then dress it up as a debate in order to have playground japes and sermonise.

Most of the religious (no doubt there are one or two exceptions of course) don’t care one jot that you are an atheist.
When you look at universe as it is mysterious and it just happens to permit life.
Had it been different, we would not be here to argue about it. The universe may or may not have a deep underlying unity, if there is no design, purpose, or point to it all.

At least none that would make sense to Atheists. The advantage of this position is that it is easy to hold—easy to the point of being a “cop-out,” that is, a convenient way to avoid facing the issue.
So, in summary, it is easy to assume that the Universe just is, without no purpose. So why not make life easier for yourself and stick to that?
