Are Atheists Unsure And Worried?

According to some of the religious people here, the reason atheists argue religion is because they ‘are not sure and are a bit worried’ (Keyplus’ words). Religion is an option available to all – atheists choose to reject it. What then, do those who say this think we are unsure or worried about? The question has been asked several times on different threads, but as far as I’m aware, no one has given their reasons for thinking that. Can someone please explain?

"When you look at universe as it is mysterious and it just happens to permit life."

I totes get that. Amazeballs isn't it.
Speaking for myself, I'm a bag of nerves. Scurries behind sofa with a copy of The Open Society and its Enemies.
Octavius - //Most of the religious (no doubt there are one or two exceptions of course) don’t care one jot that you are an atheist. //

Obviously that doesn't include the ones that knock on my door almost every Sunday. They seem to care very much.
Do you live in a converted church?
No, but I do live near to a mormon church.
"Mormon church" -- I think theres one too many letters in the first word...
moon church ?
Octavus, Maybe a pantheist Arksided? If you want to be labeled that is!

Much more of a frying pan-theist.
The size of the head of the pin isn't the only consideration. 'How small are the dancing angels?', is a question of equal moment.
The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly.

It is the unquestioning certainty of those seeking to fulfil the arbitrary whims of a delusion that worry me most.
Beso ////As usual keyplus pretends that those of his faith are just going abut their own business and not pushing their beliefs down anyone's throats.////

Actually you are wrong here and I must admit that I always ask my friends ONCE ONLY to think about Islam. And that is for very simple reason that on the day of judgment they can’t say that they never knew about it. It is like trying to stop someone going towards a fire, if you can’t just let people jump into one in this world then why not ask them to think again before they end up in the hereafter. In the end choice is of that person as even at the time of Muhammad (pbuh) not all of the people believed in him. And it is written very clearly in Quran that a Muslims must ask ONCE and that is all what one can do. I am quite open for anyone to convince me but I believe it is almost impossible on a website like this where people are hiding behind different identities. And that is the reason I have asked one of the most emotional one here (Birdie) to come and see me face to face at a place, time, and among the people of his own choice but he did not like the idea. And I know why? Because few people’s knowledge only takes them as far as arguing on websites where you can be as adamant as possible.

Beso ////Mohammed also taught that it is fine to lie and cheat provided that it is for the advancement of his cult.////

Obviously this is your own thinking and I would not ask you to prove it.

Beso ///When called to explain the obviously unsavory parts of Islam he lies or avoids answering the question.////

OK, lets try again and this time I would save this thread.

Beso again ////And when that found knowledge contradicts what is in the Qu'ran? The Moslem does not have the choice of adopting the alternative. The punishment for turning away from the faith is death.///

Again your own thinking otherwise Islam does not promote anything like that. I would take that as your knowledge based upon few websites.

Keyplus, I created a separate thread because I never get an answer to this question – and I’ve never tried to scare you off or push you off AB, so stop kidding yourself. You’re entertaining – and there’s nothing personal about it. Unlike you, I criticise the message – not the messenger.

Now if I can sort the relevant from the irrelevant, I’ll attempt to address the rest of your post.

You need to try again with this question. Atheist don’t worry about the condition or the eventual destination of the ‘soul’ for the simple reason that most of them don’t believe in the existence of the 'soul' – and those who do suspect that a residue of the energy accumulated in life remains after death most certainly do not relate it to any god.

You don’t have an open mind. If you did, you’d seek knowledge as the Koran advises – but you don’t. When the truth is put in front of you, you deny it.

I think that about deals with it.

Zsazsa. //One has to often wonder what drives a normally sane person [Atheist] to be like this? mental illness or maybe they suffer from a severe case of ocd and the "ooh i have to be right and make you realise i'm right" syndrome.//

Now, this is interesting. Let’s see what it amounts to. In your opinion, those who seek to end the injustices imposed by religion are possibly mentally ill? Is that right? So it follows that those who support the Catholic church’s ban on birth control resulting in abject poverty and misery for millions; those who are happy to see children born with horrendous diseases; those who advocate the marriage of little girls to adults; those who deny the dying blood transfusions; those who advocate female circumcision; those who advocate the subjugation of women; those who teach children that they are sinners from birth; those who slaughter in the name of Allah - or demand the murder of cartoonists – they’re the sane ones, are they? Still wondering why those crazy Atheists object? Perhaps you might think about that. We can only hope!

The fact is the bible is in error, and its spin off, the Koran, is in error – and if you come up against any well-read Atheist they will happily demonstrate why these books are irrefutably inaccurate. Like the rest of the religious and their apologists, you offer nothing in support of your belief because quite simply there is nothing to support it - and so you too resort to attacking the messenger.

Right. Anyone got any idea why atheists are allegedly unsure and worried?
Bit puzzled by the claim that the Qu'ran is the only religious book that encourages an open mind. If it does, then it is failing very badly, judging from the fixed beliefs of the religion's adherents
Question Author
Fred, It encourages minds to be open to the Koran. Allah knows best. ;o)
You sound very troubled naomi, why do you spend so much energy attacking people who are offering no threat to you or your convictions?
Please don't reply spouting jihadist crap, there are none on here.
Question Author
Khandro, I don’t attack people and I do not spout jihadist crap. I’ve listed several religious practices that anyone who cares a jot about his fellow man should, without hesitation, condemn. You defend religion regardless of what it does and regardless of the impact it has upon this world – and you think I sound troubled?
Khandro, all believers are a threat to their fellow man, some more than others. Even a passive apologist like you who would rather stand by and allow abuses of human rights carried out in the name of religion rather than do any thing to condradict your fellow theists. An ego is no substitute for an intellect and ego is all a lot of religion is about, surely even you can see that.
I do not worry about the fact that I am an atheist and I am not unsure about it either. I do worry about people who take religion too seriously and use it as some sort of crutch.
