i know because you see it in the capital... nose to tail.
jake most planning authorities do have a UDP for community facilities that require inclusivity in plan design. Still, its easy just to stick a label on a drawing saying 'womens prayer area' to get it through without any intention of actually delivering on that and letting women in.
^ This is England ???
Yes well you need to be careful about sources - he's not exactly neutral

Andrew Gilligan has had a long hate relationship with Ken Livingstone and has an 'interesting' history.

//also in a case of child abuse which he had wrongly linked to a mosque.[20] The Telegraph deleted Gilligan's article and issued a correction,[21][22] though he later denied any story he had written had been corrected.//

I don't think I'd take Andrew Gilligan's articles about Islam and Ken Livingstone at face value
have you listened to what Livingstone actually said, it is in his own words, i despise the little man, to my very core.
And here's a somewhat more objective item on the photo

It's a popular little mosque with a capacity of 100 and they get up to 300 on some days and they overflow into the car park.

But easy for the Mail to big up into an 'Islam invasion' story to fool the gullible.

Rather ironic that people talk about Islamic invasions with our soldiers in Afghanistan don't you think?
don't turn this around to do with our role in Afghanistan, i thought it a fools errand and still do, so what happens when we leave, it will revert to what exactly, and that won't change the fact that the little mosque will have to get bigger, or they will have to move.
and no women as far as one can tell.
“Well NJ, the Chief Exec of the Royal & ancient is very fond of men only golf clubs.”

Quite so, Octavius. And you will see my opinion of the R&A (and golf clubs in general) here:

“However given this it should be unacceptable for mosques not to have a seperate section for women too - in fact it should be a precondition of planning permission!”

Er.. No, jake. It should be unacceptable to have any segregation whatsoever and it should be a precondition of planning permission that there should be no discrimination on the basis of gender at all.
I wonder if those people do it properly and apply to have the road closed for their prayers?
who knows, however it must happen quite often, as it's supposedly such a small mosque, at least according to the link, there seems to be other mosques in the area...
It just strikes me as odd that a whole group of people can block a road off at the drop of a hat without being moved on for causing an obstruction.
Women do not have to go to mosque and can perform their prayer at home. Five times a day sometimes become a bit too much for women especially if they are looking after children or have other house hold chores to do. However if they wish to go then nowhere it says that they can't.
... but they can't if there is no provision made at a particular mosque for them.
-- answer removed --
they have their own prayer rooms, men have their own. simple as.
that is an amazingly sexist statement, women have chores i agree, but don't men?
it's not bloody simple, it's stupid, segregation of the sexes, why?
