In discussions on R&S both here and elsewhere one often hears questions like
Why are you bothered?
Why don't you just let people believe what they want?
What harm does religion do?

This is one example of the harm religion can do.

and it's one of the reasons atheists never shut up about religion.

Correct! You know me well enough to understand that modesty, and a certain natural shyness wouldn't allow me to speak out.
Another wise man said, "Don't hide your light under a bushel", Khandro.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of debate blows in our ears, in R&S
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Cry Harry and let slip the dogs of war.
And gentlemen asleep in bed...
Was Will saying they were anchors? " Shall hold their manhood. Cheap while any speaks..."
All my reports go with the modest truth;
Nor more nor clipp'd, but so. It's the thought that counts, and it's more than enough. All my actions are all truth, no more, no less. It just is.

What is truth?” Pontius Pilate posed that famous question prior to handing Jesus over to the Jews for execution.
Truth can mean different things to different people. But basically, Jesus Christ taught that God’s Word is truth. He also spoke of himself as “the truth.” And the apostle John wrote: “The truth came to be through Jesus.” (John 1:17) The entire body of Christian teachings, which later became part of the Bible, are therefore also called “the truth of the good news.” (Galatians 2:14) These Christian teachings embody such things as God’s personal name, God’s Kingdom, the resurrection, and Jesus’ ransom.
Having questioned religion on a personal basis, I found that many things taught by some religions are not found in the Bible,so refering back to the OP, some religions do cause harm.

For example, nowhere does it say in the Bible, do not use physicians, in fact at Luke 5 v 31 Jesus mentioned that the healthy do not need a physician but the ailing do.

So these so-called religions that claim faith will heal them are not actually following Bible teachings. Faith alone cannot heal a terminally ill person, it may help the spirit but not the body.
"These Christian teachings embody such things as God’s personal name...".
What New Testament manuscripts contain God's personal name, Idiosyncrasy?
V-E, I suspect you know the answer to that. ;o)
v-e, perhaps Yahweh (I am Who I am), which became Lord (superior master of the household) in the NT, and Brian in other literature....
In my post 10:10 Tue. 20th Aug. I said to LG; "You appear to get high on the heady fuel of iconoclasm, but I think you should consider whether that which you wish to pull down is as wholly valueless as you pretend it is, and whether you have anything as remotely good to replace it with." To which I still await a satisfactory answer, and so I open up the question to all; what exactly does atheism have to offer the suffering?
Atheism isn't a creed, so the answer to that would depend upon the individual atheist. A loving and compassionate atheist would offer love and compassion to the suffering. And if you want to take that a bit further you could check out all the major non-religious charitable organisations and find out what they offer to the suffering. That will answer your question.
Khandro, atheists don't believe in god. That isn't a collective way of life, we don't follow a "rule book". That is the difference.
^ //we don't follow a "rule book". // are you asserting that rule books are something to be avoided?
We need Laws, for obvious reasons. But what is the use of any other rule book to follow?

Yet another Non Sequitur Khandro?
What it be advisable If all motorists instead following the Highway Code 'Rule Book' drove in any manner they felt appropriate, and isn't it a fact that rule books are for everyone's benefit and can contain the accumulated wisdom of their society?
//Yet another Non Sequitur Khandro?// is not an answer and a typical response
No khandro, as dangerous driving is already against the law.
