Reasons For Lying?

People lie for many reasons. Some think they are obligated to lie about their abilities in order to get ahead in this competitive world.

Others try to cover up errors or guilt with lies. Still others falsify reports to give the impression that they have done work they have not done.

Then there are those who lie to damage another’s reputation, to avoid embarrassment, to justify previous lies, or to defraud people of their money.( Rev. 21:8)

I don't believe in small and unheralded acts of compassion. On the extremely rare occasions that I perform any act of kindness to anything which isn't an animal I make a b***y big noise about it and demand full credit. And as for broader action for social justice - what, with my feet!

A lie is an assertion of 'fact' that tests ones knowledge or willingness to believe in the arbitrary . . . a lot like religion, don't you think?

Goodlife is a Jehovah Witness. If they knock on your door and you know that they are JW's in advance, its unlikely that you would open the door, so I am suggesting that we do the same here on AB.

It has now gone on nearly all day . I do not have any religion but I would not abuse anyone who has.
After all has been said about the OP he has not changed his opinion and is not likely to.

It does not harm anyone or it can save someone from getting harmed or heartbroken are two different things. And I believe telling lie is OK in the later but not in the first. Your actions depends upon the intentions behind those actions, and it is only you who know the real intention.

goodlife was asked by distraught 5 year old if her seriously sick pet dog was going to get better and do dogs go to heaven. What would you have said to comfort her ? Remember , this was a 5 year old, who needed comfort not a sermon.

I would have said I hope it will get better and I do think pets can go to Heaven. Whether I believed that or not.
