australia is still prone to plagues of locusts, is that why they've overturned the gay marriage act?
looking the way she does may be God's way of telling her to get of her backside and do something to help poor suffering humanity.

Trouble is that these nutters abound.
No she wouldn't. People like her are not only stupid - they're dangerous.
stupid maybe*, but one thing about her is that she's had the courage - whether she got it from her religion I don't know - to say what she believes and leave the rest to the voters.

Compare that with our politicians: who knows what their beliefs are?

There is much to be said for transparency.

*Actually, there's no "maybe" about it.
Quite right. There is no 'maybe' about it. She's stupid.
She's a Republican running for Congress in a district which has not elected a Republican since 1947. So, she is both stupid and irrationally optimistic.
Question Author
"What is the non-religious equivalent though?"

Gays are scum, unnatural (and therefore bad), weaken the species etc. etc.
yes, but those epithets could just as easily be derived from religious prejudice as non-religious. My own feeling is that homophobia is more likely to be formed in the playground than in church and, as many many people have shown it can be overcome in both cases.

I don't find this woman dangerous. She has laid out her platform and the electorate can decide. That's democracy. Not laying out your platform is much more dangerous.
Based on the statement made, (and they way she looks), she appears to me to be in a state of utter denial.
A friend of mine is severely disabled due to a hereditary knee problem. She was a church goer & decided to go on one of those Alpha courses. She was told by a leader on the course that she must have done something wrong in a previous life to become so disabled! needless to say she tore a strip-off the leader & has never set foot in a church again.
Be careful, they're some very dangerous people out there.
I don't fancy her electoral chances much, if the ballot paper lists her as

S. Atanus

};-)

I thought Alpha courses were to promote Christianity. Isn't talk of a previous life, incarnation, more akin to Hinduism or Buddhism?
More Atanus politics:
She maintains that ridding the nation of the stock indexes including the S&P, Dow Jones and Nasdaq would improve the nation's fiscal troubles.

However, her opponent Williams doesbn't appear to be much of a second choice:
Williams is appealing the judge's ruling, which calls for him to attend anger management classes and undergo a mental health assessment.

Williams, who says he works in logistics, refused to disclose where he works because he has not yet informed his employer that he is running for Congress, he said

I regret to report that when my late mother was dying
she was distressed by the belief that her suffering was due to being bad sometime previously (85 y)
but she had searched her soul and couldnt identify why she was being punished.

This clouded her last days for all of us

Sandy. Glen Hoddle who's a Christian got the sack from being England's manager for saying a similar thing.
As my 10 year old autistic Grandson would say - 'She's not a full shilling is she?'
I question the rationality of anyone seeking to run for a political office . . . no less that of those willing to vote for them.
Which defeated Republican candidate was it who conceded defeat with the not very graceful words: 'The people have spoken, the b@stards.'?
Seems to have been this Democrat:
