Exactly right - and some of us read it.

Yup GL we all got a bible and it's a good fictional/philosophical read. Many of us, like me, have studied it and it's creation over many years in our spare time and this made us or confirmed us as atheists. So it has real value.
Reading and re-reading is often better than listening but I actually agree with you on one point: some people are too busy talking to listen (like you perhaps?).
I'll keep saying this a hundred times so listen carefully. The St James bible is two books: Old and New Testaments. They are morally and philosophically contradictory. Even you, GL, cannot abide by both Testaments unless you are schizophrenic.
I've never even seen the "New English Bible". Not interested as I prefer the beautiful language of the Jamesian.

The presumption of a divine creator/overseer of a reality that has any stake in our survival and well being is dangerous and to the extent of ones belief a prescription for a catastrophic outcome for all those directly or indirectly effected by such beliefs and their consequences.

There is no one nor thing with an interest or stake in the welfare of humanity. We are on our own in this universe and are wholly and completely reliant on our own wits, reason and understanding to secure our place within it. Relegating such a responsibility to an imaginary non-existent entity and their alleged rule book is a grave error and a big mistake.
