I lived in Aden for a few years, I was told an Arab's preferences were thus....a boy, a goat, a woman.
I asked The Charge d'afaire .... if your wife and your brother were drowning, or in danger.. who would you save. His reply - my brother of course, a wife is cheap.
Yes - he did.
^That was in answer to Jim's question.
Thanks for the answer, Naomi. Under those circumstances I think the second video at least is probably accurate, sadly, although I can only hope sandyroe is correct that it's just a minority view.
You're welcome. I haven't watched the videos - no time - but hopefully tomorrow.
Here's the Quranic quotes:

The Qur'an:
Qur'an (4:34) - "Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in the sleeping-places and beat them; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great."

Qur'an (38:44) - "And take in your hand a green branch and beat her with it, and do not break your oath..."

So - use a green bendy stick, and don't swear while you're doing it :-(
//So, did he sleep with a nine-year-old in the Koran? I can't say I know the answer to that, but hopefully someone with more familiarity with the Koran might do? //

I don't know, but the age of consent was 10 only 130 years ago and 7 before that. So quite possibly.
It wouldn't be in the Koran, surely - that doesn't describe the life of Mohammed. The hadith are what describe his actions and sayings, and those are a completely different document.
I’ve just watched both videos, and the old man in the first isn’t being completely honest. The Koran instructs men to beat disobedient wives – not just those who refuse to have sex.

The information given in the second video regarding marriage is accurate. The answer to Jim’s question has been given so I don’t understand why people are still questioning it. There is no lower age limit for marriage within Islam, and Mohammed did marry Aisha when she was 6, consummating the union when she was 9.

The Koran makes no mention of a minimum age for marriage. It does, however, advise men on the procedure for divorcing their wives, including those who are pre-pubescent – in other words, children.
Another idiotic crank I see>
Someone suggested it wasn't in the Koran but some other texts I didn't know existed. So that would be one clarification -- please could you quote the specific part of the Koran/ hadith/ other Islam sacred texts that mentions these things?
Here you are.

//If you are in doubt concerning those of your wives who have ceased menstruating, know that their waiting period shall be three months. The same shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated.//

Qur'an 65:4 (The three month waiting period is advised to ensure the wives who are being divorced aren't pregnant).

//The Prophet engaged me when I was a girl of six (years). ……..Allah's Apostle came to me in the forenoon and my mother handed me over to him, and at that time I was a girl of nine years of age.//

Thanks again.
ferlew, there's a Turkish saying, 'A boy for pleasure, a woman for duty, but a melon for ecstasy'.
You're welcome again.
Like all Abrahamic religions, Islam teaches peace though universal compliance to doctrine.

Beating one's wife is meant to assist her in fulfilling compliance.

Compliant wives is one of the main reasons the men of Islam are so dull and stupid.

One small correction, fender - Mohammed isn't worshipped, Muslims don't worship anyone but Allah.
^^Not true. Mohammed is the role model - the one to emulate - and in some instances his word overrides the word of Allah (eg circumcision). I think it's fair to say he is worshipped.
If you can get your head chopped of for drawing a picture of him then it isn't far from worship, after all he was only a misogynistic old slave trader wasn't he?
