Offended By Minister At Church- Picking Me Out In The Sermon Am I Overreacting

I was at church on sunday and the minister as part of his sermon was speaking about being confronational and he asked people to put up their hands who like confronation. Well I did and I was the only one to put up my hand. And he stood there and addressed me by name and said yes we know you are confronational especially with the posts you put on facebook please dont do that as I have to not read them because I am not good at confronting things. i was mortified and upset by what he said as everyone was laughing and some did not know where to look nor did I I went home and deactivated my facebook account and now I am thinking about taking time out of church for a few weeks I am offended Am I overreacting

It was a cowardly thing to do, even if he did ask for volunteers, He was being confrontational and knew you wouldn't be able to reciprocate.

You did stick your hand up! I would also have felt mortified and I think that your minister may have had a bone to pick. (He mentions your facebook page and you have obviously upset him deeply.) I think it is a case of you having inadvertently caused fairly deep offence - people have different levels, so don't feel bad.

Me, I'd face my demons and get back into church with chin held high. The minister will probably seek you out for a word - he is probably regretting words uttered in haste as well. Upset on both sides methinks x

Regardless whether you are overreacting or not, which is subjective opinion, you feel how you feel. For sure you volunteered for the spotlight, but if you feel abused then either tell the minister, or change your place of worship. Take it as a life lesson learnt. As folk point out, you identified yourself as someone who liked confrontation, got some as a result, then became offended instead. Decide what course of action you want to do then put the experience and bad feelings into the past.

What would have happened if more than one person had put up their hands? Would he have picked them off one by one,publicly criticising them? I disagree with the majority who say you got what you deserved. The Minister should not have publically made reference to your FB page or what you write on it. You are not over-reacting and I would make a complaint to whoever is his superior. So glad I'm not Christian if this sort of thing goes on.

Reading over my reply, it appears I as good as said Gordie got what he asked for - badly expressed by me.

I would never post on FB anything that may rebound - that said however I think this Minister has behaved in a very unchristian fashion and if he had something to say it should have been in private.

Humiliation is horrible.

A similar thing happened to me. I was in the pub and someone said 'hands up who likes being kicked in the nuts?'.

So put my hand up, and he kicked me in the nuts. It really hurt and I was very upset.
