'Matereialistic' science has given us better health care...vaccines, eradication of certain diseases, anasthetics, anibiotics, pharmaceuticals, etc. Its given us instant communication with others via the internet, mobile phone, text, email and telecommunications and GPS systems. Its science that has enabled us to have food all year round and safe clean drinking water. Its science that allows us to predict the weather in advance and prepare for the worst of it. Its science that has utilised electricity so you can switch your light on and use your computer. Its science that has allowed us to board a jumbo jet and be on the other side of the globe in less than a day.

What has 'faith' in an unprovable deity ever given us?

Anyway....back to the question.
What has FAITH ever given us?
Theland with all due respect to your beliefs, anyone hawking DVD's and asking for money so you can get info on their religion is at best dodgy ;-(
Nailit: define 'Faith'?
Something to discuss on and on and a coconut shy/aunt sally for all.
Faith has never given me (personally) anything, but I know it brought my mother joy, comfort, hope...all manner of things that are not tangible.
//Something to discuss on and on and a coconut shy/aunt sally for all.//

Well that's how this site runs. People stop asking questions and the site closes. IMHO this is a good thread, asks questions and prompts different ideas on faith & religion.
Faith in whatever does give people comfort. Its only when Faith dictates how one should think and live ones life that it becomes intrusive.
Auntlydia - Good point. Always deserves scrutiny.
So scrutinise.
Churches pass the plate.
All ministries need some money to function.
Lots of money preachers around who are millionaires from greed and gullible people. Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar and many many many others. Moriel rely on help to run the ministry, and nobody lives the luxurious lifestyle. Check it out.

Nailit: define 'Faith'?
Must admit that I was tempted to post links to online sites etc but thought better of it.
FAITH...Beliving in something without any empirical evidence, proof or otherwise. Also denying *evidence* to the contrary.
Nailit, the 'evidence' part is difficult. We have no evidence that there is no God(s), of any kind Pagan, Christian, Muslim etc. People believe, in my opinion, for some sort of meaning to life They decide which 'Faith' best suits them to give them comfort. Athiest & Agnostics don't need comfort -they have it sorted: life death big black nothing. End of.
We live in a society based on a Judeo Christian culture, that has given us values that helped society progress.
The abolition of slavery, the drive towards equality, helping the poor, establishing schools and universities, and hospitals.
The Protestant Work Ethic, widely recognised as a major economic driving force.
A prime mover in investigative science.
But above all, a foundation and backdrop to the very basic core values of our society, built on and improved over a very long period of time.
Compare the number of Nobel prizes we have compared to Muslim nations. Wow!

//Nailit, the 'evidence' part is difficult//
No its not. Why is it?

//We have no evidence that there is no God(s), of any kind Pagan, Christian, Muslim etc//
We have no evidence that there is no Easter Bunny either! Dont get ur point.

//They decide which 'Faith' best suits them to give them comfort//
Faith and comfort is not science or proof.

Theland, which Christian denomination do you most subscribe to?
I lean towards Protestantism, but not in it present day apostate form.
Question Author
//I told you my so called denomination//
When? Where?

Admit it Theland, you don't agree with ANY modern day Christians do you?
Question Author
Theland, I am genuinely interested. What do you find 'apostate' in the protestant church?
Blind acceptance of being treated poorly by those with lots of money (eg untouchables, the lowest class etc) as it is their lot but if they are good people and do as they are told they will go to heaven and be rewarded for being down trodden all their lives.....think of the victorians,,,,!
Lack of faith didn't give you all those scientific advances either; scientists who just got on with it, faith or no faith, opened the door on them.

I have faith that scientists will continue to discover for us.
I find Ecumenism totally unacceptable. It negates the Reformation, and gives credence to the Roman Catholic Church.
Individual vicars can run their churches along pure Christian lines, but virtually all of them just go with the flow. Sad. Not for me.
