Weve had our spats on here and biblical apologetics has been done to death.
But Im genuinely interested...
When you read the Old Testament, what does your conscience say?
When you read of God ordering killings, war and genocide, when you read of injust laws been implemented and God ordering the execution of rebellious teenagers or women that don't bleed on their wedding night or rape victims having to marry their rapist so that they can be *kept* for the rest of their lives (by their rapist)
Doesn't that repel you in any way?
Just trying to understand the mind of a literalist bible believer.

BibleGod... smiting his way around Palestine, ordering the destruction of tribe after tribe, drowning an entire planet, having men, women, children and animals put to the sword, burying people alive, sending bears and snakes to kill people, killing all the firstborn of a nation because of the hardness of its leader, ordering the stoning to death of rebellious children, women who don't bleed on their wedding night and those who follow another faith, burning to death of people, sending plagues on people, giving rules on how to enslave others, punishing people for the 'faults' of their ancestors and threatening eternal torment for those that reject his 'goodness'.
Very commendable God.

I am not a victim.
I don't have thin skin.
I don't know of any follower of Jesus Christ who has ever, or would ever, consider flying a plane into a tall building.
I am in fact at a loss as to how to address the stupidity and ignorance that passes for a serious comment.
Nothing serious about it.
Actually, I am certain that the deliberate provocative responses are nothing more than an attempt to light the blue touch paper, and stand back waiting for fireworks, and munching on popcorn.
I wouldn't mind a discussion between equals approaching the subject from different directions, but not this rubbish alas.

This does not necessarily relate to Religion, in fact most atrocities have been carried out under the banners of Communism, Nazism, Fascism and other assorted atheist ideologies.
If you want to quote atrocities carried out purely in the name of Christianity, you will probably have to go back to the 11th century.

Khandro, incidentally you wouldn’t have to go all the way back to the 11th century to discover atrocities committed by Christians and Stalin et al didn’t do what they did in the name of atheism. Atheism isn’t a club. Furthermore the Nazis were not atheists.
