Weve had our spats on here and biblical apologetics has been done to death.

But Im genuinely interested...
When you read the Old Testament, what does your conscience say?
When you read of God ordering killings, war and genocide, when you read of injust laws been implemented and God ordering the execution of rebellious teenagers or women that don't bleed on their wedding night or rape victims having to marry their rapist so that they can be *kept* for the rest of their lives (by their rapist)
Doesn't that repel you in any way?

Just trying to understand the mind of a literalist bible believer.

Anything I say is going to be met with, "Yeah but! Yeah but! Yeah but!"

Slap each other on the back, boost your egos, have a great time.
all I know is that Moses came down the mountain and said, "You Jews (not the Corbyn lot), I've got you some good news and some bad news. The good news, comrades (חברים) is that he, Yahweh, has reduced the number of commandments to ten. "The bad news, you המוסלמים, is that adultery is still there. Tuff then."
Theland, //Naomi - How dare you question my integrity. //

I don't question your integrity...
In answer to your original question, I once thought the destruction of the Canaanites was morally reprehensible.

After researching it, I changed my mind.

The big lesson to learn, is that however outraged we are using our wisdom and moral code, God is wiser and His moral standard is better and broader than ours.
Theland, //After researching it, I changed my mind..//

Researching it where? From apologists? Integrity, honesty, morals? Food for thought from Jeremiah: //Cursed be he that doeth the work of the LORD deceitfully, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood. Jeremiah 48:10//
"God is wiser and His moral standard is better and broader than ours."

Since there is no conclusive evidence of a God, one can not deduce one's God is wiser or morally better than oneself. One can only define that a God will be should one exist.

So, what part of your research allowed you to approve of the destruction of the Canaanites ?
Still no answer ...
He is speaking rhetorically here rather than literally - Jeremiah 48.10
//...God is wiser and His moral standard is better and broader than ours.//

That's precisely the kind of attitude that leads some to fly aeroplanes into tall buildings.
That occurred to you too then Mibs.
We all know religion is a moveable feast - you can use it to justify every single evil you can think of, and plenty that you can't - because it is down to what you want it to be.

Theland reckons it makes him a better person - unless he is being offensive to people on here of course.

Like I said, moveable is the key word here.
I am calm where God is concerned.
My Keeper.
My Peacemaker.
I get more peace from prayerfully thanking Him for His blessings, and seeking His guidance, than I do from any human contact, unless of course, it appears that God has intervened in my life, and sent a message via a person.
That often happens.
^Inspired....
Quite.
Wish others could share.
No thanks, Theland. Why would anyone want to share the mind-set of someone who justifies wholesale slaughter?
Like atheist Stalin and Mao and Pol Pot?

Anyway, I see where this is going. So not thanks.
Theland, unlike you they didn’t hide behind religion to justify slaughter.
If you're not worried by someone who believes they are in communication with The Supreme Being over the universe, at the very least you should be terrified by what they might believe this SB would have them do.
Add Hitler to the list.

Commendable chaps.

Never hid.

Always honest and open.

What's not to like?
