Nailit - I also taught for over 30 years in tough comprehensive schools in inner-city Bradford, Halifax etc. Drugs, pupil prostitution, knives - you name it - the Bradford Riots; I was in there naming ringleaders, providing a safe house for some friends in there. Eventually (I'll soon be 70) I reached my now beloved backwater - after a spell in France which started with the wrong man who turned out to be a psychopath and tried to kill me, so I ended up handling a court case, in French, before I met my much-loved Mr. J2 - but I am very much aware of other areas and am actively involved in trying to help homeless people locally.
So, you are jumping to a few conclusion, the most serious of which is that I cannot communicate on deeper societal issues. I think I'm entitled to spend my twilight years in peace and a lovely setting having 'fought the good fight'. I also volunteer in school to help slow readers by the way and when a little boy broke down in tears recently I discovered why and was able to set the correct wheels in motion. Don't tell me that I can't and don't understand.
