It was suggested in another thread that atheists who debate/contribute to R&S are obsessive and may require therapy. I cant speak for other non-believers but I can speak for myself.
I debate/contribute to R&S for the same reasons that the politically minded contribute to news, for the same reason that right wingers will debate left wingers. I have minimal interest in politics so don't often get involved in those debates. I also don't have much knowledge of politics but I do have some knowledge of religion and in particular the Bible. I am not obsessive, I have stated many times that I have fundamentalist Christian friends and that I work with Christians but the topic of faith/belief rarely crops up in day to day life and I rarely, if ever, think about it. But if questions of faith arise, I WILL, give my viewpoint - as I do on here.
I don't believe in God or some supernatural being, I don't believe in biblical prophecy and I don't believe in miracles...and will give my reasons why when asked. When the Bible is toted as truth I will give my reasons why I don't believe that. When the Bible is held up as a moral guide book I will say why it isn't.
Some people on here seem to have an 'obsessive' interest in other sections of the site. I wouldn't say that they needed 'therapy'. We all have our own interests and mine happens to be R&S mainly because its something that I know a little about.
Hope this helps ;-)

//Compare that to the barbarism of Islam today//
The 'Barbarism' was all based on Mosaic law.
Really? How do you know that?
And the amputations, public hangings from a crane, whippings, and crucifixions and beheadings?
More jokes?
I do wish you would produce some evidence for your wild statements.

Really am getting tired of this now. To use your own terminology on numerous occasions....DONT BE LAZY. DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!
Been at this for hours. I'm off now to listen to a few lectures from leading atheists and evolutionists.
No knowledge is wasted.
What evidence do you have may I ask that god exists and that he created the world?
There is plenty of evidence of evolution.
I try to learn from people of all religions and beliefs. I've recently started going to a Buddhist Centre where I meditate and chat with Buddhists. They are lovely people - I enjoy trying to understand why people believe what they do and always try to be tolerant. I am bi-sexual but have never encountered any intolerance.
Found no evidence Islam / Mosaic law.
GymLadTim - You will find lovely people in all religions, and in fact in every walk of life.
Realise though, that Satan is powerful and has an agenda.
That is, deceive people and lure them away from Jesus Christ.
Hence the proliferation of religions that do just that.
Satan loves religion. It suits his plans, and Budhism is just another deviation from the truth.
Don't fall for it.
Theland I don't believe in God or the Devil. Sometimes I envy those who do but it's not for me. I enjoy learning about different religions and cultures and getting to know people from diverse backgrounds. I went to an Iftar with a group of muslims and that was wonderful. I go the the Buddhist centre, and have been to a catholic church a few times - I really love hyms and the part where they shake hands and say peace be with you.
I found out I had a grandfather who was a quaker so would like to meet some of them.
Theland but people from other religions might think that following Jesus is a deviation from the truth. How can anyone be sure?
" Found no evidence Islam / Mosaic law."
Your research didn't last too long, 2 hrs and 20 minutes maximum.

It's pointless trying to have a discussion with you, You stated " it is unwise to assume that “I create evil” in Isaiah 45:7 refers to God bringing moral evil into existence. " How else can it be rationally interpreted? this is a quote from your Bible, you're the one making the assumption.
// Satan loves religion. It suits his plans, and Budhism is just another deviation from the truth.
Don't fall for it.//

I’m genuinely concerned for your mental well-being, Theland. Really I am.
GymLadTim //I found out I had a grandfather who was a quaker so would like to meet some of them.//

I think that is an excellent idea, what you will find I hope, that like the Buddhist group you have enjoyed the company of (the sangha) the Quakers also understand the importance of silence & meditation in order to delve deeper into one's being, which cannot be approached by the type of constant prattle demonstrated by many on this thread & (I'm afraid) in many modern Christian church gatherings.
There is an old German saying; Reden ist Silber Schweigen ist Gold
(Speech is silver silence is gold)
Vulcan is right when he says to Theland, //It's pointless trying to have a discussion with you, //

Theland is beyond the reach of rational discourse.
Why is it pointless having a discussion with me?
Why do you think I am beyond rational discourse?
Vulcan - even a cursory look at a few web sites tell me Islam is not based on Mosaic law.
But you characters make me laugh.
Are you setting me homework or something? Who do you think you are, the head teacher of Answerbank?
Prove me wrong if you fancy doing a bit of research on your own, and show us your evidence.
I haven't read all the posts yet, but most things are literally "debatable". It interests me... not "what" people believe, but "why".
Theland, I think you sometimes misunderstand atheism. It isn't a "following" or belief, like religion, it is a lack of. Sometimes, you can rule out unlikely causes, without knowing what the actual causes are.
I don't know, or claim to. I would also change my mind if proof ever arrived. But not one shred, in thousands of years... it would take far more than an old book to convince me. We may never know what is so, but we can be fairly sure what it isn't.
It never takes long for the insults to flow does it?
Do you all feel,proud now?
