What Would It Take To Convince You Otherwise
121 Answers
As a young, ex fundamental, evangelical Christian, what led me out of faith was an (albeit reluctant) admission that I was simply wrong. After years of wrestling with doubts, questions, voracious reading, Bible study, prayer, etc I simply had to admit that my faith was misplaced and I had NO evidence for my beliefs. I had to accept that I was wrong on so many levels.
SO...what would it take to convince you (if you are religious) that *YOU* may be wrong?
(Conversley....just to be fare...what would convince an atheist that THEY may be wrong)?

But God is God - the Supreme Being who we should all adore / fear (delete according to which scripture you are quoting) who created everything single thing, including us.
So if it is Mankind pulling the strings, and he is the reason for sin, then there's not much point worshiping God is there - he's not in charge, we are.

//Millions die each year from one disease or another. But this is where the Bible gives hope//
Not unless you were an Amalikite, Canaanite or one of several other nations that God ordered to be put to the sword and without mercy.
Not unless you happened to be of a rebellious disposition as a teenager in which case you were to be stoned to death.
As was a virgin that didn't bleed on her wedding night or a rape victim that was forced to marry her rapist.
Not much hope for billions of people that simply cant accept the Bible or who havnt heard its message.
Never heard such rot that the Bible is a message of hope.
Its a message of tyranny. And tyranny of the worst kind.
Nailit “ And you dont have to believe in fables.”
But if you interrogated the vast majority of people who claim to have shaken off the believing stuff, you would find some other equally irrational and nonsensical belief instead. Astrology, Magic, Gambling, anything at all.
Once you believe in nothing, you’ll believe in anything.
I think people need a crutch. If not god, then anything will do.
It’s a very hard task to believe in none of this nonsense!

Allen, //Once you believe in nothing, you’ll believe in anything.//
You have the quote askew, but it was nonsense when G K Chesterton came up with it and nonsense it remains.
(For clarity: “When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”
G K Chesterton).

Loaded is an apt term for Sargon of Akkad's rambling, full of assumptions and his personal interpretations on multiple issues, inconclusive babble. Sargon seems caught in a similar tribal trap as the 'holy books' followers he refers to. (i.e. we get our ethos from the past)
Yes archibaldy you got it right, Sargon suggests the 'holy books' may be necessary for those with I.Q.'s 80-90, we need heroes , and 'all lives matter is different from each life matters, as is your life matters', and claims without the 'holy books' we have no incentives towards virtue.
The word 'pretentious' pops into my mind watching him, "Elevatorgate" exemplifying it.

Goodlife, //One good thing about the Bible it tell us what true christians will expect from non christians and especially atheist, but like all things your day will come//
How you relish that prospect. Given a moment’s thought it should come as no surprise that others, with rather more moral fibre than you possess, and rather less spite than you are capable of, have no desire to spend eternity with you. There is nothing admirable in your philosophy.
