Balaam's donkey speaks to him in another story. So there really isn't any need to get hung up about a talking snake.

Nailit, You need to do a little reading around but the snake(serpent) is obviously Satan. Compare Revelation ch 12v 9. Also God's admonishment in Genesis ch 3v15 is clearly addressed to Satan rather than just towards a snake
