Does this mean you don't believe anything at all? Or that you believe only what you yourself have experienced yourself? Or that you believe in scientific consensus as "fact"? Or that you believe that is impossible for two people with opposing viewpoints to be able to be reconciled, to agree to disagree, or both be "right" or "wrong"? Are you completely limited to only believing in what you yourself have personally experienced and feel you can prove by your own logic and evidence? It seems a little bizarre that you can't grasp that we don't all require "absolute infallible scientific proof" (what is that anyway?) to be able to believe in something. I believe in volcano's, but I have never seen or experienced one. I also believe in dreams, although I have never photographed one. I also believe in atoms, but wouldn't know one if I was able to see one. I also believe in the law of gravity, although it is impossible to prove scientifically. But perhaps I am labouring my point somewhat.
Arbitrary beliefs are meaningless and pointless. What I want to know about is that which has consequences for life and well-being, what is real and relevant, what needs to be done, what needs to change and how to do it and how to know it. The mind is easily mislead, seeking answers and making up narratives in spite of the lack of sufficient information to distinguish fact from delusion so as to make informed and productive decisions. What makes life meaningful is the knowledge of what life is and what makes it real.

Err, in a nutshell, yes!
Otherwise I would have a belief in Zeus & Thor, Pixies & Goblins, Acupuncture & Homoeopathy.
Are you completely unlimited in believing, unsubstantiated claims that defy logic & evidence?

we see a thousand things a day on tee vee
which we believe
shootings in America - everywhere
Boris is an honest and much married man
and we cant really demand incontrovertible evidence for each one - we dont have time
so we trust
and I have to say when I find it is lost ( usually with the liar saying - so what?) I am critical
this appears to be a fact of life

Hi Nailit, I can empathise with your, ''problem,'' of not being able to make yourself believe.
Me either.
I can't make myself believe or disbelieve something, and I have to be convinced by evidence.
I have found such evidence to convince me that my worldview is correct.
Sadly, for me, atheists are always ready to stick a nutcase label on me, but in truth, I expect it, and it hardly bothers me.v

Theland - // Sadly, for me, atheists are always ready to stick a nutcase label on me, but in truth, I expect it, and it hardly bothers me. //
Enough with the whining and self-pity - again.
No-one on here as ever inferred that you are a 'nutcase', and any rough handling you may have incurred you have brought entirely on yourself with your endless preaching, condecention, and prevarication.
Not forgetting that you give absolutely as good as you get, so drop the victim schtick, it's not valid and ... oh yes ... it ages you.

Theland, please stop preaching! The scientists may not have come up with anything, but at least they are willing to investigate, not put their trust in a book that says what they want to hear. There is no evidence - none at all - for the claims you make. You will go back to your loop, 'the Bible says this, so...' I'd rather stay unamazed than follow your spurious reasoning - the 'stronger evidence' is, like all your evidence, rather meagre (perhaps non-existent).
Even if we had access to all the necessary information leading up to the existence of living organisms, it would still be nearly impossible to point to an instance in time and say, "That's it, the very first life form!"
Posing questions that address matters you yourself don't fully understand does not justify putting forth the proposition, "No one knows by what means or process, therefore, obviously my very own unfathomable version of 'God', exists".
Lack of knowledge is not a legitimate claim to knowledge.

Theland, I have read your 'inert chemicals...' stuff countless times. I have read your '...so it must be God' countless times. What you have never given - ever - is anything that substantiates your reasoning. The 'it wasn't that, so it must be this' is ... far too weak, far too vague to be considered as anything other than the thoughts of someone fitting 'facts' to their belief system.
PS Why the 'nutcase' stuff?

The nutcase stuff? Quite simply the tone of posts towards believers suggests it, does it not?
But regarding life, you have to understand the complexity of the problem to appreciate that no amount of time would ever produce life.
The longest word in the English language is three and a half billion characters long, that is the sequencing of the human genome, ACT&G, and is dependent on information to make it function.
We know of only one source of information, and that is a mind.
Without the input of information, nothing happens, anywhere.
So the existence of a first cause, a supreme mind is necessary to our very existence.

Theland, I'm sorry to have given you an opening to trot out your 'comes from a mind' stuff. You don't cope well with people refuting this, so I'll save myself the bother.
It's rather ill-mannered to reference 'nutcases' yourself. The 'tone of the posts' smacks a little of desperation, I hope we're not heading down the path of victimhood (again, yet again). 'It suggests it, does it not?' can be simply answered, 'No'.
