If YOUR holy book told you to kill people,
Would you?

Bet you wouldnt?
So why defend a book that does?
Probably because you havnt read it......

Guns don't kill people, readers of Bibles and Qurans do.

//As a Christian, No I wouldn't. The Bible tells us in Exodus that we are not to kill.//

Have you actually read the book of Exodus
(Or just listened to your preacher/vicar/pastor)?
Read it and get get back to me.

//Which 'holy' book 'tells' it's adherents to 'kill people', Nailit?//
The Bible for one.

Would would you like a long (very long)
list of verses?

Nailit, as you know, I'm not a believer, nor do I have any intention of reading the bible, but isn't "Don't kill" one of the commandments?

Yes please, nowhere does the bible ask YOU to kill anyone, - are you insane?
Yes, Nailit. Lets have them. Anything from the Bible advising current readers to kill people.
Hazi; How could the bible possibly advise modern people what to do? The bible does tell how the Jews were told by God to massacre other tribes and take their land away. It also requires death penalties for Sabbath breakers, adulterers, and so on. I suppose that sort of advice could be considered as setting an example for modern people to follow and, unfortunately some christians do believe they should treat the Bible literally and do what it says.

That was advice given to the ancient Hebrews but I think it's universally recognised that it isn't advice for modern people to follow. I don't know of any Christians - or Jews - who do that, but if you do I'd be interested in hearing about it.
Atheist: My post in the other thread, 'Converts.....'

"I've read my bible, & HE didn't kill anyone, allegedly he gave instructions to others to commit such acts, but I don't accept that as being literally true.

I believe What is happening today by the jihadists mirrors exactly what happened in biblical times, that is to say people carried out savage acts believing it would put them in good stead with God, and it didn't only happen there, look at the Aztecs for example, (or even the Greeks)"
By the way, the organisation you've linked to isn't the best place to search for answers.
Khandro, //"I've read my bible, & HE didn't kill anyone,//

Why have you posted that again? You know it's not true.
Naomi, the bible dates from ancient times and so all it contains is aimed at ancient people. Some of its advice seems reasonable and humane to me ans some seems awful. In any case it is full of contradictions, so in practice it is used to support whatever people's natural inclinations are.
I can't provide any examples of modern people carrying out genocide because of the bible but I suspect that there are many in the USA who wouldn't be averse to waging war on infidels; after all, the extermination of muslims for example would be seen as carrying out God's word.
Naomi, the link I gave resulted from a quick google search and I chose it because it points to chapter and verse, and it also shows the way some christian minds work when they try to justify such biblical stuff.
Fortunately most christians don't take the bible literally.
Atheist, //after all, the extermination of muslims for example would be seen as carrying out God's word.//

I doubt that. It isn't something God commanded. Best not to make things up. It's not helpful.
//it also shows the way some christian minds work when they try to justify such biblical stuff. //

That's all it will ever show you, atheist. It's a bible thumping evangelical organisation.
Yawn, yawn, yawn. Same old, same old. Could probably go back quite a few years and find exactly the same discussion/arguments. Funnily enough by the same people too,
naomi: //Why have you posted that again? You know it's not true.//

Of course it's true; find me where in the bible God HIMSELF kills anyone

The 5th commandment = “Thou shalt not kill.” .
Khandro, the Flood - and that's the second time I've said it.
