The Turner Prize

Did anyone watch this, 'let's pretend it's art' annual event? Apart from the risible quality of the competitors, the staging of it in an English Cathedral (Coventry) left me filled with incredulity.
Against the backdrop of the large Graham Southerland alter-painting of Christ in Majesty, an assorted group of rowdy weirdos, lounged around at tables in the body of the church, drinking and sporting their egos & sexual proclivities.
How could an bishop ever allow such a thing to happen? I can find no mention of this grotesque spectacle in any of today's media and wonder if this is through timidity or embarrassment.

While I conceed that he is an easy target at times, I see little different to this and that of Peter to your posts, something you have called "stalking" in the past.
Anyway, if the church want to use a cathedral as a venue, I don't see the problem. Many different halls associated to various religious bodies are used as venues.

naomi: //Khandro, just out of interest would you have been happy if it had been an exhibition dedicated to, say, Rembrandt or Rubens?//
Not for the Turner Prize, they are old masters & I've seen a lot of their works. No, it's for modern works & there are plenty of good artists working in the different disciplines, painting, sculpture, film, Paula Rego is famous enough & needs no extra coverage, she is a terrific painter with a show at Tate Modern at the moment

& there are plenty more good artists out there. These people are complete mediocrities, being pushed & encouraged by even greater mediocrities & I wouldn't like anyone to think that this is in any way representative of all that is happening in the world of modern art.
