Since Naomi will not give me the ****ing key I have decided to follow Jesus and be a Christian just like Theland. I am ashamed of my past history here so I'm going to devote the time I used to spend on ab to reading the Bible. No question really because I no longer care about what people think. I'll get all my answers from God from now on thank you.

Mibs, can't wait. If I have a week to spare, maybe I'll do the same.

Theland, let us know how you get on. If your eyelids are sunburnt, I'm sure they'll go down in a day or two. Sounds like you need a hat to go with your new outfit.

Changing the subject, don't you find AB quite traumatic at times? Yesterday, I spotted a question in the little grey box (top right) about a choice between Nice or Venice, and immediately clicked on it to give my answer. It wasn't until I had pressed 'submit' that I realised the question had been posted in 'Chatterbank' rather than 'Travel'. Arrrrrghhhh ..... I had unwittingly ventured into uncharted territory - a veritable No Man's Land.

And .... don't you find that some people here argue for argument's sake? One word, and whoosh - they're off - twisting and turning everything others say - and in the most arrogant manner. Are they bullies, do you think, or are they just sad, bitter, people, with nothing better to do? I can't help feeling they're not being entirely honest, but just enjoy putting forward an aggressive argument, rather than conducting a civilised debate. Civility seems to be at a premium with some, and I really wouldn't want to know them in real life! What say you?

Naomi, For what is worth I admire observing you in the throws of battle, even when your fighting in a war that by virtue of the mindless brutality of the enemy, can have no victor. Just as I told Theland, as much as I can sympathise, you will get no pity from me.

Im happy to share a few thoughts with you which I hope are germane to your questions.

I think this is a reiteration of similar thoughts I've submitted to you more than once before and I hope you will consider it carefully. Ones lifetime is the ultimate value upon which ones choices must be weighed. I believe my time is better spent defending reason than trying to explain the irrational.

Coming to an agreement and finding common ground are essential to any worthwhile relationship. The purpose of debate is to determine what we should agree on which is truth.

Consider three basic forms of debaters. One seeks only to defend their position at all costs and the other seeks to justify their position or in failing to do so revise it. The worst I believe is the one who will abandon their position without a fight. But in any case the truth may not always be forthcoming. Such is life, not every chunk of ore conceals a gem but to abandon the search is to live and die having seen only the grey of the quarry.

I hope you can excuse me for operating on a revoked poetic license.

I try to restrict myself to understanding the basics. I hate to see beautiful castles crumbling down upon an unsupportive foundation.
Oh, I'm not looking for pity, mibs. I find pity aimed at myself to be utterly demeaning, and I balk against it with a passion. I'm happy for people to disagree with me, or to agree, and pity is the one thing I don't need to bolster any argument I find myself embroiled in. I was merely musing on the rationale that surfaces from some, and the ability or otherwise, of supposedly intelligent people to be true - at least to themselves - and wondered what my fellow inmates at the Sanctuary thought. There's many a very wonky eye around it seems. I would like to believe some find pleasure in playing Devil's Advocate, but I have my doubts, and have come to the general conclusion that the wonky eyes have it.

Thank you for your admiration - I will take that as a compliment.

There are many master debators in CB but everyone has to have a hobby. Not so many cunning linguists though I've noticed.

I find pity aimed at myself to be utterly demeaning . . . Not to mention inappropriate and contradictory. . . . and I balk against it with a passion. As well you should!

Thank you for your admiration - I will take that as a compliment. . . . of the highest order!

Not so many cunning linguists though I've noticed.. . . What a shame!
Thank you.
' Not so many cunning linguists though I've noticed.. . . What a shame!'

Well quite!
And here she comes ....... 1000! Yesssss! (Sorry Theland, couldn't resist it).
China! You beat me to it!! Oh, and I really thought that was in the bag. Congratulations!
Chickens.... Count.... Hatch... Don't... Etc... ;0P
Flutters eyelashes and adopts whiney, pleading tone

Miiiiibbs... Don't suppose you've got an explanation on tunelling shields for dumbies in that brain of yours have you? Actually any of you?
True ........ squawk! And you didn't realise it. (Neither did I until I posted my thanks to Mibs). Oh, Theland's going to kick himself. Maybe he'll try for 1100.

By the way you two, I'd say you are both rather cunning linguists - wash your mouths out immediately.
Well out of the two of us I'd be willing to lay money on Mibs being the more cunning linguist, I've not really had cause to be. That said, the master debator of the two would require the collection of data from the pair of us that I think would be best not collected.
Err? What are 'tunelling shields'?
Well in light of our previous conversation I'd say something made by either durex or trojan.

(The way they made the tunnels for the London Underground that went under the river. See Science).
Ah, yes, I know. And no, can't help.
How's it going with your chairman and the stuff that was making you punchy?
Yes, I can. This looks fairly simple - if this is what you want.

No, not really. I might get a bit miffed at times, but never punchy. He's still around - but I have a funny feeling it won't be for much longer. What a pain!
Want me to have a word with him for you? I promise no punchiness, (I'm not a violent person).

Well that helped in putting it that way round helps me picture it a bit more but not really very much.... I'm still struggling with it. My brain can't picture it or indeed how they even started it so I don't understand. (This goes some way to explaining why I'm lousy at maths too).
