Tony I'm glad that you admit at last that the world is spiritualy sterile, its been a while but it has been worth the wait. It isn't always cold though, you just have to find somewhere that is comfortable for you.
It's a big question Ummmm, and there are other things here I want to addess, so can I get back to you later when I have a bit more thinking time? I'm running backwards and forwards between the computer and the oven at the moment - and since my husband will be home shortly, the oven has to take priority! Wouldn't want to get the sack! Haaaa! :o)
Tony, why obviously? What are your observations? (I think you're wrong in calling atheism a spiritually sterile place but I'll get back to that later).
Ummmm its ok to believe in god but still react against the restrictions and patriarchal structures of formal religion...in the same way it is possible to be comforted and feel secure in the rituals and routine of formal religion without really believing in god...and all points in between... all are valid places to be...the strength of faith seems to ebb and flow in some people anyway....and maybe something good will happen unexpectedly which you will see as a blessing or you will see as simply good fortune...it's down to your mind no one else's at least you are thinking about it and if you go back to it it will be a reasoned choice....
Just thinking about the Santa Claus comment...being with a 5 year old would make you want to believe in Santa claus again....
