New one on me. Email from TV.LICENSING.SECURE.MAIL+ID20178236104812@41938.55201982.EMAILS561872229.emailslicensingtv.[uk]

Some rubbish about changing systems, sting of course being that if I don't log in etc etc my licence will magically fly out of the window and they'll come round and confiscate my cat. Or something.

Warn elderly or unsavvy relatives.

ALL tax goes to one of two places, the gov, or the local council. No matter what it's classed as.. income, road tax or anything... It will go to one of two places. So IMO, just pay yer taxes. Helps the world go round.
i'd pay it for the david attenborough docs on its own
Oh dear, wonderful how an innocent wind up brings out the worst in people.
I watched the dynasties one from Sunday this afternoon, about the chimps, marvellous.
"an innocent wind up"

Wait.. are you either.. admitting to being a troll? ;) ORR are you back tracking?

;) ;)
The issue with the TV Licence is not that anybody expects TV to be free. It is that you have to buy one even if you have no wish to watch the (who received near enough all of the revenue raised). It's like having to pay for the Times when you only read the Sun.
I want to watch the dynasties.. they look really good but also a bit too real :D I guess that's life
NJ that is false. You do not need to buy a TV licence if you only watch DVDs and videotapes. You also don't need to buy a TV licence if you only watch channel 4 NOT live..
you need to pay for a licence if you have ANY device that has a tuner therein...whether or not you use it..you have it..you pay

Not entirely, true, you can decommission the tuner.
Phew! So SparklyKid *does not* steal TV broadcasts......that's a relief.

Are you also now paying for your music downloads, too? :o)
Don't do music. Films are my preference, lol.
Of course, silly me......have you started paying for those, yet?
Meanwhile, back to the main topic. Is the licence fee for over 75's to be abolished ?
SK, YES, if you are over 75, you do not need one.
It's ideal to check links to Gov websites, they're fact.

On 1 April 2018 there was a change in the law for free over 75 licences on the Isle of Man.

FAO murry and NJ..

you only need a TV license if you watch or record live TV programmes on any channel, or to download or watch any BBC programmes on iPlayer – live, catch up or on demand. This applies to any device and provider you use.
