When Is This Slaughter Going To Be Banned ?
41 Answers
Yet another horse killed on the Aintree Course.

The course has allegedly been made safer, and "Jockeys who rode in Thursday's race had reported positively about the redesigned fences. "
Nobody got the horses' views.
The Sport of Kings, like kings themselves, should be abolished.

Canary, I totally agree with you, it's obscene IMO. I'm going to copy/paste something I wrote in response to a post by Fredpuli43 recently... "I was talked into going to some horse event in Sussex a few years ago. I went with an open mind but was astonished to see what a grotesque pantomime it actually was. Loads of oiky pseudo-toffs coughing up wads of money...

What do you suggest then Canary42, ban jump racing?
What about show jumping, ban that as well?
Yes it's tragic that a horse dies or gets seriously injured but why do all the anti racing brigade only pipe up during Aintree?
Every year the same old posts appear about bookies owners trainers and punters only doing it for the money, do you honestly think that when a horse dies or gets injured they all just shrug their shoulders and think "never mind there's always another one"?

I'm really not trying to be provocative but racehorses (steeple chasers and flat racers) are bred for a specific purpose. They do their job and must take their chances - as do many other animals we choose to use - unfortunately accidents happen, in which case they are dispatched with the minimum of distress which is more than live animal exports can expect. I'm slightly at a loss as to why the OP is targeting this particular event. I agree that what happens to some race horses after their useful life is often another matter but clearly not one being addressed here. Having said that - horses that go round the Grand National course are usually very much loved and treasured animals who have a home for life. Sheepdogs, chickens, pigs and farm animals have a far worse existence.

I went with an open mind but was astonished to see what a grotesque pantomime it actually was. Loads of oiky pseudo-toffs coughing up wads of money while these elegant beasts where whacked and cajoled over the massive brush like hedges. One fell and a hospital style screen was drawn around it. The crowd fell silent and we all anticipated the crack of the vet's gun. Happily, the horse eventually leapt to its feet and was allowed to live.
Quite revolting - I'll never go again".
