Why?

An Olympic sport on bikes usually ridden by children?

What next? Tricycle racing? Mobility scooter racing at the Paralympics?

High time officials stopped just making sports up

I'm looking forward to the kite surfing in the next Olympics, but I guess some people will think kites are something that should be flown by 10 year olds.
What is the cost in medical charges? Will anyone insure them?

Kites ARE something that should be flown by 10 year olds.
Not in Kitesurfing though joeluke. A different kettle of fish altogether. Maybe someone could lobby the powers that be to substitute that for the BMX.
If ever you're in Essex, JL you're welcome to have a go with one of my kites. a 5m foil in a moderate wind would soon change your mind, or maybe a 12m LEI in a light breeze.
Instow in N Devon is better though..
Agreed :)
go the whole hog and have kiteboarding, some people do that locally
Kiteboarding is kitesurfing, do you mean landboarding?
yes (or land kiteboarding as wikipedia tells me)
Agree about the BMXing, adults riding kids bikes in the name of sport

As for the kite flyers, nice to watch on a windy beach but definately not a sport
expensive kids bikes
I think I'll get me old Grifter out.

They used to call me ,,,,, Grifter the Shifter
Well I think it is definitely a sport. And skilled too. The trouble is, you will never be able to guarantee the right conditions in this country for either kitesurfing or regular surfing You can go down to the beach one day and there will be perfect waves/winds but you go down there the next day and the conditions will be totally different. I can`t see those sports being included in the Olympics (at least not on the Atlantic - maybe the E coast is more consistent)
Since when has fishing been a sport?
I think I'll get my old punt out.....
Sport Fishing is not the same as recreational fishing Daisy
BMX is an extremely skilled and specialist art form JL some of the tricks and moves are easily as complex as gymnastics or diving (and often much more dangerous) it's not just the domain of children.
