Why?

An Olympic sport on bikes usually ridden by children?

What next? Tricycle racing? Mobility scooter racing at the Paralympics?

High time officials stopped just making sports up

I actually agree with you. Saw a bit of it and it reminded me of ET.
Many of the swimmers and gymnasts are younger than these BMX riders though
I don't know their age factor, I think joe meant they are normally ridden by children ie not at the Olympics.

Exactly, young adults on childrens bikes
Presumably you could do it just as well as the Olympic riders then?
Pretty skilled as far as I'm concerned.
near me there is a professional BMX track that hosts national events, it gets crazy busy and is used all year round, if those bikes today encourage more kids to spend their weekends on a bmx track and not smashing off car wingmirrors they can look as like et as they care to.
my son has been skateboarding for 20 years and is desperate for it to be an olympic sport, keep the faith.

^ at 6ft 3ins somehow I don't think so

I'm sure you enjoy taking yours out around the block though
I agree. If they have BMX, they might as well have skateboarding
no, no, no, save us from skateboarding
"at 6ft 3ins somehow I don't think so"

Ah, A shorty!

And,no, I have no where near enough skill or fitness to to what they do, but I'm not the one criticising it.
one day they will,
Why not skateboarding?

It's another very skilled activity, or I presume everyone thinks chariot racing should still be in the Olympics?... times change, deal with it.
The Pole Vault always struck me as a rather odd event
if horses have to be in the Olympics then chariot racing would be preferable to dressage
... and I think BMX is far more relevant than the pole vault
I don`t have a problem "dealing with it" Chuck. You can`t have every skill in the Olympics. Breakdancing is skilled, inline skating is skilled, surfing is skilled. You`ve got to draw the line somewhere. There are plenty of cycling sports in the Olympics. Lets give another genre a chance.
and fishing......why the biggest sport in the uk is not there i don't know, maybe they don't fish everywhere in the world.....
At least its a sport, in which the participants have the facility to decide the outcome. Unlike Gymnastics, Dressage, Synchronised Swimming. I think BMX has more of a place in Olympics than any of these.

Im my youth teenagers rode Chopper bikes but they didn't make up an Olympic sport for it

Where does it end? Roller blades? Scooters? Races where a cyclist gives someone a 'backstep'
