England Manager/coach
Who'd be your choice? Klinsmann would be mine
Answers
Maybe cast around for a herdsman to muster those donkeys and carthorses wearing three lions. Spoiled oafs with an obvious air of entitlement whose heads drop at the first sign of trouble. Pathetic to watch, made all the worse by the utter garbage that spouts from TV presenters who refuse to acknowledge failings. I nominate Old MacDonald and no, that's not...

exarmy448 - //It has to be an Englishman. The trouble with English football is that there are too many foreign owners, managers and players. While this is the situation we will never be world beaters. //
I have no interest in football, but logic dictates that suitability for the post is the criteria, rather than nationality.
Simply appointing someone because they are English is not likely to work - based on the previous incumbent.
The absence of English players will not be altered in the slightest by the appointment of any manager - that is the structure of the Premier League.
England as a nation does not produce players that can compete with foreign players - that is a simple fact.

if Ericsson proves foreigners don't work, surely Hodgson proves Englishmen don't work either?
Andy Hughes is right, it doesn't matter where you get your manager from as long as he's good. Insisting he should be English would be cutting off your nost to spite your face.
Lilmiting the number of foreign players in the premiershp is a different matter.

Too me managing a football team is not rocket science, they all try to make a simple game difficult! Surely you just play your best goalkeeper, best full backs etc etc and tell them to go out and pass the ball to your team mates, stop the opposition from playing and score more goals than them, if someone gets injured you replace them with the next best player in that position. Brian Clough and Alf Ramsey didn't complicate a simple game, all this 4-4-2, 5-3-1-1, diamond formations etc is all poppycock! They get paid fortunes and for what, during the Euro's so called experts were praising Hodgson for his half time changes, BUT half the *** country could see it needed those changes! To me, Steve Bruce or Sam Allardyce could do the job, not some Johnny foreigner who would cost double what they would!

I nominate Old MacDonald and no, that's not Rooney's bit on the side.

Who is a difficult one unless you do include foreign managers.
English and continental managers are capable of making the same mistakes.
Hodgson and Capello didn't have the balls to drop a useless Wayne Rooney from their team.

I think that Klinsmann would be a good call, myself I'd prefer an Englishman to manage the national team all that they need is someone who actually watches the previous games of the opposition and not have the striker taking corners etc... The list goes on how many things that bumbling idiot did wrong
Bruce would be a good choice after all he's being there and shovelled it.
As for Rooney (Iceland game aside where they all played volleyball) he adapted well to the midfield... much better than Lampard and Gerrard ever did.

Again, I am happy to confirm that I know next to nothing about football, but I do know that the England team - millionaires to a man - were comprehensively demolished and run off the park by Iceland, a team with no professional players!
That little thumping noise is my case being rested!

Arksided - //^ Lol a professional opinion from someone that self admittedly knows sweet FA about football but chooses to throw his tuppence in. //
'professional'? hardly! Hah Hah!
Is one required to have an outstanding knowledge of a subject in order to venture an opinion?
I do hope not, because if that's the case, the entire AB will fall apart overnight!!

Talbot - //Well I know a lot more about football than you do and could tell you exactly what happened and why it happened //
Good for you!
// But would it really be worth it? //
Since I care about football slightly less than I care about the backside of the moon, on balance, probably not!
But don't let me stop you educating the rest of the people on here - education is a wonderful thing ...

andy-hughes @ 08:56 - "Surely that was down to incompetence rather than ethnicity."
Yes, andy, of course it was and i totally agree that the next manager should be appointed on merit rather than nationality. I was merely responding to jno's apparent suggestion (later retracted) that we should follow the example set by the rugby and cricket authorities and appoint a foreigner.
