Women Playing Football

Do you like watching it? Dr Johnson said, "Sir, a woman's preaching is like a dog's walking on his hind legs. It is not done well; but you are surprised to find it done at all!"
Could this apply to football?

Don't please get me wrong, I think there are lots of sports women are good at & a pleasure to watch, golf, swimming, athletics.
It's probably me, but I fail to get excited about it.

Completely agree. Nothing against women in sport per se, & I love to watch women's athletics and even extreme sports like marathons and skiing, but contact sports - the worst of all being boxing, simply isn't what I would call (& I make no apologies for using the word) womanly.

I don't mind the women playing and well done the team last night. However, the commentary team was dire......a shame that they hadn't brought in their top guns on this one ....As an old boss of mine once said as of presentation, 'if in doubt, use the first surgeon's maxim, rip it out.' The commentary women last night dribbled on and on.....

How sad to read some of the outdated and frankly insulting attitudes towards women playing football.

The ladies played well and for once it would have been nice to have been united as a country to cheer them on.

I think the country was very much united and cheering them on. Even I watched - and I don’t like football!

Perhaps the women should stay at home and take part in more suitable activities - knitting, crochet, cooking and servicing their men!

I was cheering them on too, you'll be surprised to know. But, unlike most people, I can see the limitations of womens' football. And that has been on show throughout this tournament.

Not a sports fan at all, especially of football whether played by men or women and I didn't watch the match, but well done to these girls who won for England and apparently won well. Enjoy your victory ladies. Maybe I should have watched it now ...

Over the last 10 - 15 years, women's football in this country has evolved, and continues to do so - it was once so bad as to be almost unwatchable. Yes, we know men are faster, stronger and more skillful with the ball, but we've been playing competitive football for well over a hundred years.
We have lagged behind many other countries but that has been down to lack of serious investment. After the Euro win, that may (really should) change.
Many countries now have professional women's football leagues, which, by their very competitive nature, have improved the skill levels of women in football.
As long as women's football continues to evolve, things can only get better. And, who knows, perhaps one day 10C will have his boat floated by watching an expertly delivered bicycle-kick.
