If it was up to me there would be no golf at all! It's got to be the most class obsessed & sexist game of all.
On a famous course in Scotland there's a sign saying."Dogs & women are not allowed beyond this point."
Closer to home...My local greengrocer is a member at the most prestigious course in my city, he plays off 4, so he's a pretty decent golfer. He went for a game this summer, & left his van in the car park at the front of the club house. A couple of days later he had a letter from the club telling him not to park his van at the front of the clubhouse, as it lowers the tone of the golf club....That's golf & the people who play it in a nutshell!!!

I agree it is the most class obsessed, but the women are as bad as the men.in my opinion.
My wife had an interview and had to fill in a form when joining the Royal Birkdale Golf Club. The application form was 3 pages of nonsense which could have been answered by:
I am not black
I am not Jewish
I am married to a professional person.
This is why we will never have a Tiger Woods in the UK
JJ...most are, but the "ordinary guy" can only afford the green fee for the "crap" Municipal courses, the green for for the courses with the essential and up market facilities is out of the pocket of the ordinary person.
gleneagles is the next venue for the ryder cup,,, hope it doesn't rain,, I've played golf for over 30 years and i'm not a snob,, theres always snobs in every walk of life,, you just have to bring em down to your level.
municipals are very good courses these days, I personally dont go for all the golf snobbery I play the council courses which are excellent and thankfully that old pompous attitude is starting to die out
