My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

Morning all from dull Derbyshire. I saw two women go by in fur trimmed parkas earlier. It's not quite that cold but the wind is very chilly.
I've only got one self seeded yew I keep smallish with a bit of light snipping but I still get sore weals on my arms if I brush against it. I slap some savlon on and that soothes them. You may already know that yew is used in chemo and young hedge clippings can be collected in some areas.

Know how you feel shaney, I've had one of those weeks when I could have sat on the pavement and cried. I think the weather's going to be more settled next week.
I hope you liked the neutrogena body slop, I've bought a different max factor foundation I like, Miracle Touch (I need one) liquid illusion. I've only had it on for an hour so far though :)
I think I'm here somewhere....
yes that neutrogena stuff is lovely....I no longer have legs like Wonko the human lizard girl.
Jno, here’s the handcream

There is a pumice hand wash and a hand and nail cream in a pot too.
Its pleasantly cool and grey here....sort of seaside weather. the dogs say its excellent sleeping weather....zzzzzzzz
Ooh, I bet that smells good. I like Crabtree and Evelyn Gardner's hand scrub and cream but it's expensive. I had some for a present once.
it does smell lovely Robi, and not expensive either
Hello all. Bit hit here now, have no energy. For some reason feel nervous today.
I didy roots and beggared it up by not adding enough developer, so I bunged some after and it sort of worked. It'll do till I get to UK .
Bergamot and jasmine .I bet that smells divine .I love bergamot .
M&S used to do a body spray but it's been discontinued along with the sicilian lemon one.I used to like those for a refreshing spritz in the summer.
That Neutrogena gloop is quite good .I've been putting it on my legs but I doubt there's anything that will get rid of the mottled skin and scarring now. I'm still very impressed with that Avon true colour foundation Robinia and am on my second one .That's a first for me with foundation. All these years of foundation flops ..lol
It's definitely been cool and grey seaside weather today at the seaside.I've been busy doing nothing ,just watching the tennis and knitting.Shame some of the big guns went out unexpectedly but it's been very entertaining nevertheless.I'd like to see Federer win again.
I feel like that sometimes Neti .I get jittery for no reason.
Night all.Sleep tight .
You know I have been sorting out the aftermath of my big room removal? Well today in the heap of stuff, I found two jars of Baxters chutney!

apparently it poured for a while here today but I didn't notice. I was watching The Cruel Sea so I probably just thought it was a storm in the Atlantic.
Good morning folks. Am sitting at Ibiza airport eating chicken wings and chips waiting for my flight at 4.30! Lots of young and very loud people about!

Have a safe journey Neti although I expect you are here by now being welcomed by the crowds at the airport waving their autograph books.
Well,it's not every day that the Queen of Ibiza arrives:)
Lovely day here ,warm and sunny unlike yesterday which was dull and raining .No two days alike lately.
Hope you're all ok.No exciting news ,it's all pretty normal for Norfolk.
hello all. Its been hot and heavy again here today. I found a large healthy looking toad on the patio last night...the first one I have seen in the garden for more than 20 years. I shooshed him into a bucket and put him in the tort enclosure safe from the dogs with plenty of food and cool damp shade but he wasn’t impressed with the bucket!
Good evening...lovely sunny one, it dried the washing to a crisp.
Shame it didn't shine on Saturday, I went to my nephew's wedding reception, the one who got married at Victoria Falls, at least it didn't rain. I'm so out of touch with modern hooleys...loud unidentifiable music, young women with scary eyebrows teetering on skyscraper heels in very tight clothes so they could hardly walk never mind dance. Hey ho, the food was good and I got to wear a long frock and some bling. I spent yesterday recovering and watching the tennis.

Have a good time Neti, plenty of sales on for you. It's going to be hot for a couple more days and then it's supposed to be cooler.

Hope you're all ok.

Hi all. Arrived at Gatwick at 6am and then had a coffee and after an hour got the Express to Eastbourne, was love, you, not crowded and beautiful scenery and I was on the shaded side. Lots of delicious food. Gammon and pineapple , new pots and runner beans tonight, followed by Eton mess and wine lots of wine. Slept this afternoon whilst watching TV, but I needed it!

Went to Rochester for the day, strolled round the cathedral, conquered the castle, and found a milk shake bar so I had one. That took most of the day, I don't know how.
Enjoy your stay Neti.I just knew you would hit the shops soon as:)
Hope the weather stays nice for you.

Oh lovely Jno.Did you see my friend's sister in the cathedral tea shop ..lol .Long time since I've seen Rochester. The last time was at the school reunion in 2004.I remember saying goodbye to my friends at Chatham station to get the train to Victoria and the lovely view across the Medway in the early evening sunshine as we went over the bridge.
The tennis was good Robinia .Great to see Federer win but it was a bit of a dull final .I felt sorry for Cilic.
Night all.
Good day all. Phew this shopping is getting a bit mad! Bought 2 blk/what gingham tops and 2 sets cropped leggings from Peacocks, going to a sixties show tonight. Slept 11 hrs last night, six and I went to bed at 9pm it was still light. Am loving English sliced bread.
