Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive
My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.
Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)
(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

I use up-to-date Avast on W8.1 and don't have this problem. If you right-click the Avast icon in the task tray you'll find the 'Avast Shield Controls' where you can disable it for a period - see if the drive is recognised when Avast is disabled. I suspect it won't make a difference.

afternoon all...another week has whizzed by in a haze of rain, wind and the occasional sunny spell. Luckily Tues was a good dry day, it was the day I'd picked over two weeks ago for the new gardeners to cut the hedges. I wish I could pick the lotto numbers as accurately. They did an ok job, cleared up well but I'd have liked more taking off and the tops are uneven. Hey ho, I'll have to save up for the experts next spring, they do an amazing job.
You all seem to have been busy, have a good trip jno.
I'm sure I've said this before but I've never bought or sold anything on ebay, I don't know why but I don't feel comfortable about it.
I did give in to temptation and bought a good 3-in-1 waterproof online, a Tog24. It's got a snuggly interactive fleece so I'm all prepped for monsoon, blizzard and hurricane this winter. I'll be warmer outdoors than indoors. I'll see if there are any bags on ebay to go with it :)

Hello Robi. I never buy on ebay. And very rarely on amazon and after my debacle with M&S i dont do online anymore. Cooler here and quite pleasant, but still sweti. My legs have been so bitten, I am covered in scabs and acars andore bumps coming up daily. Many folk on the island are moaning about being badly bitten even though we use deterrent and plug ins.i have to cover my legs as I am so ashamed as look so dirty. We done all the cats feral and tame ive treated alll the outside concrete but its not fles anyway!!!
Evening all
Note to self .Don't put disc 5 of season 4 of your box set into the DVD player instead of disc 1 and then sit there and watch three episodes wondering what the hell has happened.Put the big light on in the room so that you can see what you are doing.
I buy a lot of odds and ends on EBay.Mainly knitting stuff,Avon make up and books .I've been reading a series recently and couldn't get them from the library but they were all cheap on EBay.
I can't trail round the shops like I used to. Picky has sold a few bits on there for me as well.I've never had any problems.
Looks set fine again for tomorrow ,not as fine as Greece sounds but it'll do me for now .
Night all and Kalinychta Jno.

Hello all
Lovely day here, warm and sunny after the early morning chill .Well it is the autumn equinox and the leaves on the big trees in the park are starting to turn gold but any sun and warmth is very welcome .
I hope your bruises soon heal Jno.
That's extortionate Neti. It's a couple of quid here.Next time you come home stock up and also get a big tube of Eurax. Can your family here send you stuff like that ?
Otherwise nothing doing really. I have the unenviable job later of cleaning out where the cooker is.Picky is coming to pull it out and disconnect it for us.God knows how many bits of stray spaghetti etc. I'll find .

Oh what a lovely windfall for you Neti.Treat yourself though. You can buy loads of calamine:)
I just had a surprise although not as lucrative as yours. Logged onto the FT website and saw my name in print.I've won the Polymath crossword. The prize is the latest edition of Chambers dictionary.I'm well pleased as the one I have is a museum piece, held together with duck tape.
The crip under the cooker was awful How shameful ,although it's not the sort of thing you clean under every week is it? Although I expect some do.All clean now though.

Oh Shaney, your name up in black and pink, congratulations. I one tried an FT crossword but one of the answers turned out to be hampster with a P, and I was so annoyed I didn't bother again. I expect Collins spells it like that but I don't.
Neti, I went to the village last night and loaded up on Diet Coke at 1.20 a bottle and some Nivea sun lotion at 9 euros, much better.

Congratulations to the winners! The best I have done lately is a free lucky dip on the lottery. Its a lovely bright day here. The torts are restless indoors but I have to put my foot down as the nights are getting colder and they will go and hide themselves in the evenings. I am feeling technolologically smug here as I have managed to program 2 new remotes for the garage doors and set up my computer backup to happen automatically over wi fi. having said that now something else will probably go wrong. Garden is looking like a crime scene because I have marked all the dead shrubs and saplings I want removing, nice tree man is coming to give a quote on monday. Large chair and 10 (!) bags of stuff go out the door on wednesday to a charity shop so moving on nicely.
Well done shaney. And we'll done jno for finding a cheaper shop!
Same old same old here. Mr N has just made a lovely dinner, pork solomillo, delicious resting pots with grated carrot, and a raspberry sauce. Lovely but the washing up wasnt, as he used an old sticky pan and it took ages to clean it. I hate leaving things to soak overnight!
In our main square there are lots of artisan stalls selling oliver etc, so we decided to buy pickled onions, they are salty but we pop them into pickling vinegar, they wanted 20€ for less than a kilo, we refused, they think we are tourists even though we speak spanish, so try to overcharge.
Woofy you've been busy, I got Mr N to remove the trellis headboard in our bedroom so I could clean behind, well much as I dust it daily all the dust was there in pretty triangle shapes on a purple wall, Mortified! Got an urgent to spring clean and also made Mr N remove the piles of reading books by his side of the room, by heck the dust! So that all clean now. We are saving the books to use as firewood this winter, should burn nicely!
