Avast Blocking My External Hard Drive

My Avast demanded to be updated yesterday, so I did. Now when I plug my external hard drive in (a little Maxell portable) nothing comes up and I can't back things up. I assume these two events are connected as there was no trouble till today.

Is there any way to tell Avast to permit it? Or of restoring the earlier Avast? (Though I assume the latter would be risky.)

(Please don't advise installing MSE instead as I had the same trouble with it in the past; that's why I installed Avast in the first place.)

sorry to hear all that, Lottie, I'm not surprised you're feeling glum. I try to use my muscles as little as possible and leave it all to the house elf, but it makes no difference, they still ache and pain. I hope they find a shoulder to your specification soon.

Hi uni. It was unearthed!! I have coped with walking with a rollator, I have coped with the pain, etc, but I am simply not coping with not having a useable right arm and shoulder and not being able to even manage clothing without help. Good job himself is fit and able to be chauffeur, housemaid, personal ladies maid, gardener, sous chef, etc,etc. But I so miss my independence grrrrrrrrrrrr.

Lottie I am so sorry to hear about your disabilities....enough to make a saint swear. We are sat here in state waiting for the tree men to arrive to sort my garden...the weather is weird. Here in the south we are not forecast to get hit but its very windy and humid here and the light is yellow.....looks very stormy

Yes ,really weird weather today.It was stuffy warm and very windy here with an oily sky all day and then it had a sort of yellowish tinge towards dusk.Nowhere near as bad as they had it elsewhere though.Awful there in Ireland and the west of the country.
Went and had my hair cut and highlighted.I've got a great niece getting married in three weeks and I can't turn up looking like an ancient aunt.

good morning all. Lovely young men came and did my garden yesterday. It now looks a bit newly shorn but much lighter and tidier. Got car man coming to do my bumper dent today...I really know how to live. Hope nobody was blown away yesterday.

Much fresher out there today .Sunny and breezy .All the crud in the sky seems to have blown away.It was dust from the Sahara apparently.

another mild, dull, damp day. I don't seem to have done a lot, and I will leave this note here saying so, for the use of any future biographers.

dent man fixed my bumper and told me not to wash or polish it for 3 days. When I had finished laughing I told him that God washes my car and once a year it gets valeted when its serviced. I did a bit of titivating in the garden yesterday and today I have got a stiff knee which will teach me to be all industrious. Wet and grey today and high winds forecast for saturday.

Hi folks. Terrific storm all night. Pergola over pool completely wrecked. Had oysters for lunch, much cooler here now. Having a lazy evening and probably a wine or two.

Brian edged past us rain wise but it's mighty windy out there.Lovely and sunny though.Ideal wishy washy on the whirly day.
Nothing exciting to report apart from the fact that our cinema in the High St has opened.I hope it's a success.Discounts for old biddies so I might give it a whirl if there's something I really want to see.

Brian must like it darn sarf he has taken up residence. This trashes my sky tv and means that Shughy wont go out in the garden without an armed escort although he is happy enough once he's out there.

Evening all! Well,sis is winging her way over Woofy's house atm. I hope Brian allows her to land. Had a good time but way too much eating and drinking. Still getting bitten to pieces. Today was extremely hot couldn't stay out on patio. Nice and quiet at home now, ah peace reigneth, want to settle into winter mode but a bit too hot , hopefully won't be too long. Hope there's no civil war here.
