Tomorrow I switch from Orange broadband to BT infinity and should go from 2mb/s to 38mb/s, thanks for all of your help on my previous thread about this and here's hoping to a faster service.

Thank You all

Remember it will take a few days to stabalise
Best wishes for today.

Even before it has stabilised you will see a vast difference to the poor speed you have been getting from Orange. You'll be amazed how fast pages change from one to another. I haven't got Infinity but feel that my standard BT Broadband is good with speeds at the top end of 13 and sometimes creeping into the low 14s.

I think you have done right to opt for BT .

Hans.
2mb is pathetic
i get the same a hans but im with tesco broadband
Having dealt with them I'm amazed at the thought that going to BT is the right thing to do. I'm only with them as the bill comes as part of the quarterly telephone service one, not one of those evil DD compulsions.
You will not get 38mb/s.

On a good day expect 12mb/s. On a bad day you may get as little as 5mb/s.
Upgraded to BT infinity from broadband at end of last month, now getting close to 30 Mbps massive difference, but has taken a few days to get to this speed. I used ookla speed test before and after to follow difference in speed.
It really depends on how far your house is from the fibre cabinet in the street. You're copper from there to your house and that affects your speed. If you're close to the cabinet you should be up in the high 30's.
A lot of these speeds are academic though. The stated speed may be high, but it will depend on "contention". That's the result of how many people are using it at one time.

In my (rural) area, we have around 2.7 mbs, but that slows to a crawl at weekends when everyone is on board.
''but that slows to a crawl at weekends when everyone is on board''

Do rural areas still get electricity at the weekends? :)
Snags no they change to battery power then

However OG, have you considered that buying Broadband from a company who uses a BT line to deliver to you, in the event of a breakdown it is quite easy for both your supplier & BT to argue as to whose fault it is for the breakdown causing you the customer some delay whilst they sort it out between them ?
PS .. when you put your house number and postcode in to see if you can get broadband or fibre. The speeds quoted are usually something like ...
"up to 14mb" or "up to 38mb". Don't get too excited.
Because if you are receiving bottom end speed while using Broadband.
You will continue to get the bottom end speed available with Fibre.
A number of my neighbours who were getting 6-8mb with broadband from various ISP's are now getting 15-22mb from their new fibre connection.
I know it's approx 3X quicker, but it's still not the "up to 38-40mb" they were quoted... or I suppose that the "up to" bit covers the ISP, when you don't get the full whack.
Not trying to burst your bubble or anything I do hope you get a massive boost in your speed. It will seem so as you only get 2mb at the moment.
Please don't forget to let us know with a follow up report.
As I said above Alavahalf, it depends on how far you are from the fibre box in the street, which is not the same box as the copper box. I used to get about 2MB/sec on copper, now I get around 37 on fibre with TalkTalk.

We changed to Infinity 2 or 3 months ago,
Uswitch have just checked it at
40.3 Download and 16.5 Upload
You know one who doesn't demand DD, Ron ?

Just done a speed test and getting just under 30mb/s download and 9 upload
Pleased to hear it !
@ snags and TonyV

Yep, we get the 'lektrik 24/7 now. I wish I could say the same about phone signals in country areas. People are surprised when I don't take my phone with me. It's only because there's no signal most of the time.

One of my local pubs has a ladder permanently set up in the garden. You have to climb to the top for a signal.

There's often a queue at the bottom ;o)

In another pub, you have to go up to the Landlady's bedroom.
Well.... er.... that's what I'm told..........
Probably a queue to landladies bedroom as well !!
Panky that's not to bad then?
