Does anyone know if it is legal for you to have your wages paid into someone else's account? Even if you have bad debts, you can still open a bank account solely for your wages, can't you?

Yes you can have your wages paid into anyones account. However that should not be necessar, most banks offer a basic current account which you cannot overdraw.
Just be careful you don't fall out with the someone else. Once YOUR WAGES are in THEIR ACCOUNT the money is theirs. It could take quite a fight to reclaim it.

As Loosehead says go and open a basic then after a while you'd probably be able to upgrade to a proper current account.
