What speed have you set it to burn at?

What quality have you set it to burn at?
Question Author
16x
maximum quality
but with my old burner i could burn at 8x maximum quality and it only took 15 min...and it didnt slow my computer down at all
Could it be your disks? Are you using the right sort?
Question Author
yes i am using the right disks.. i am using memorex dvd
lokkeee here

also ... did you peg it up as either master (end of cable) or slave (mid)?
ide devices (unlike eide) doesn't like c/sel
so even if it's the only drive it should be pegged as master and at the end of the cable

if it's a sata .... all devices are master

I'm also with ethel in suspecting the DVDs
if poss try a different brand (if you can scrounge one up)
occasionally you get a bad batch ...

finally have you changed or updated your software?
I generally uninstall the burning software before changing a drive (if you can...get the latest version

then re-install to your nice new kit
Question Author
my master is on the end of my ide cabler and this one is set on slave the pins i believe are on slave ... almost certain... i have tried a different dvd.. but it is also when i am reading with that dvd rom that my computer bescomes jumpy... software .. i have the most recent updated version
run the CDspeed test
you could try swapping master/slave
or better yet ... just your new drive as master
(your existing master isn't a hdd is it???)
even a cd as master can interfere (not often though generally ok as slave)

failing that

faulty drive????
