you need the model of the printer.
You will need to know the model number, or cartridge number.

It's a HP Photosmart 7150. Will that identify what I need?
C6656AN Black Ink Cartridge (HP #56)

and

C6657AN Color Ink Cartridge (HP #57)
The cartridge number will be written on the cartridge itself. That would be your best bet.
(or just wait for Chuck lol)

Thank you all.
As an example I have given the address for one ink cartridge supplier (I am not connected to them in any way) and by clicking on the arrow next to 'Select your cartridge' you can see exactly how many different cartridges are made just for HP Printers

By clicking the arrow next to 'select your printer' and choosing PhotoSmart 7150 you will see the ones suitable for that machine alone and the various deals offerd

Good luck
