You may find your computer is not capable of running XP.
In technical terms XP was quite a "jump" from Windows 98.
Windows 98 was based on "DOS" so was light on computer hardware use.
Windows XP was based on Microsoft's business version of Windows and required a much more powerful PC.
Do you know what CPU you have, and how much memory (RAM) and how big a hard disk?

So you want to do a "clean install" of XP.
So you need to "boot" from the XP disk. You need to set the "boot order" so the computer boots from the XP disk BEFORE it boots from the Windows 98 on the hard disk.
Start up the PC, put the XP disk in the drive, shut DOWN the PC with the XP disk still in the drive.
Start up the PC, and if you have set the boot order correctly the PC should boot from the XP disk and begin the install.
Then follow these instructions.
