I think I may have a problem with my PCs RAM. How can I check to see if both memory sticks are fully working? Do I need to run a memtest and if so which is the easiest to use and from where? Thanks

Start, Settings, Control Panel, System. Ram available will be shown near bottom. I have XP.
the first one is easist to run

but http://www.memtest86.com/
is the best you will need to make a bootable disk (floopy or CD) the web site will have instructions on how to do this or post back if you get stuck, if possible run the longest test.

also worth a visit to http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/ will tell you howm much it will cost to upgrade replace.
