Connecting a Wii to my iMac
3 Answers
Hey everyone
My friend just gave me his Wii, - good times. I have an apple iMac at home, but no television. I am trying to find out if I can use my iMac as a monitor, so I can play the Wii. Does anyone know of a way to do this?
I have tried looking online and can't quite understand the forum answers - basically I'm a bit thick and don't really understand all the tech jargon. Some sites say it can't be done, some say it can but don't explain how, others say I need fancy cables. Please help!
Basically I know my iMac can do wireless stuff, and I wondered if there was a way I could get them to communicate wirelessly. Am happy to buy cables if I need cables, but obviously would rather not if I don't have to.
Specs-wise, the Wii is, well, a Wii! And the iMac is a 10.5.8 OS X 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB. I think the monitor is 24" or 27", can't quite remember but it's one of the bigger ones.
Does anyone know a) if this can be done, and b) how I might do it?
Is there a website that can really kinda dumb talk me through it? I don't understand any of the fancy words, but I think I could get there with a little help.
Thanks so much for any advice, am really looking forward to playing with my new games console (never had one before!)
Thanks a lot

Basically the Wii can only output analogue video and the Imac can only accept digital video on it's video in port.
The cost of the gear to do it (well) would probably be more than simply buying a little TV.
If anyone else wants to chip in with suggestions then the Wii can only output composite or component video and the Imacs video in port is basically HDMI (in apples own miniport physical format)
