Stronger Router.

Scenario: sqad in study with desktop and router .....great internet connections (no land line).

Mrs sqad in kitchen with laptop and router..........poor connection to internet. New router bought for Mrs sqad TP-Link (booster)......no improvement.

Any ideas to get Mrs sqad's laptop connected to the internet ( I don't want her in my room).

Sorry, can we start again please, you have a WiFi router and a TP-Link booster, whereabouts is the booster, it shouldn't be in the kitchen as you're already aware that the signal is poor there, actually it probably isn't a 'booster' but a repeater and as such should be somewhere between the source (your router) and the receiver (Mrs Sqad) where there is still a decent signal. It then 'repeats' that signal thus extending the range.

Just like Fitzer, I would like to start again at the beginning.

It appears that Sqad has a great Internet connection in his Study without any connection to a Land Line. It would be interesting to know how this is so.!!.. Does he have a wireless link from an ISP to his Router.

More info is required and , in this regard, I think that Sqad should pay particular attention to what has been said by Fitzer.

Right, so we have "router"-----> "repeater" ------> "laptop" where the repeater is physically halfway(ish) between the two, the next question is how do we know that the repeater is successfully connecting to the router and therefore is able to extend the range. What model is the repeater Sqad and how did you set it up?

Fitzer.....it is described not as a repeater, but as a RANGE EXTENDER TP-LINK and is between MY router in my study downstairs and Mrs sqad's Laptop upstairs in the kitchen.

It was set up by a mate whilst i was away at the Club.

Just had a word with Mrs sqad.......the RANGE EXTENDER is connected to the router because it was "set up" physically next to the router and the EXTENDER works perfectly if Mrs sqad is sitting next to me.

Range extender=repeater, same thing different name. I'm not sure you can tell that it's working perfectly when she's next to you as at that point she could be connecting directly to the router rather than the extender. Two thoughts, one, the extender still isn't reaching from where it is to the kitchen (you do live in a palace don't you?) Or it's bust :-( if there is the facility to physically connect Mrs S' laptop to the extender via an Ethernet cable then that would prove that the extender is receiving a signal ok but not whether it is 'extending' The next investigation steps are tricky if you aren't au fait with the kit as basically one needs to interrogate both the router and the extender to see which computers are attaching to what, I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help here as my Windows days are long gone, maybe best get your mate back in

Sqad. If my memory serves me rightly, you have a satellite internet connection. I am not familiar with these but why are you using two routers ?

Unless you live in a mansion, than one router, centrally placed should allow any PC to pick up a signal ( perhaps you do live in a mansion, or should that be hacienda ? )

Have you tried swopping your PC and her laptop around ? If her laptop won't work in your room, than it can't be down to the router.

Sorry...can't think of anything else, other than what has been said already.

What sort of internet connection is your main one eg. ADSL or Broadband Cable. What make of router do you have? It is important that you match your network devices so as you are using the same brand as some brands don't work well with other brands. As a suggestion you could use powerline adapters to transfer the internet to the other room . Have you checked your internet speed from your ISP if it is slow then that wouldn't help either . Have you tried to position the router so as it is in the open like near a doorway so as the signal has a clear path. What OS is on the laptop? How old is the router if over a year a firmware update maybe needed or a replacement with a newer one with the latest N or AC wifi output.
