I would only ever use Wi Fi at home to do any online banking, never anywhere else. Generally, I restrict my banking to my home desktop which has a cabled connection to my router. My travelling laptop/tablet do not have any banking details on them at all.
ivor 4781's link at 09.27 is the way to set it up.
Very important to change your routers admin log in to something else and obviously make a note somewhere safe of what you changed it to. It's quite surprising to find how many people do not change the routers admin details leaving it on the default settings.

All online banking is done under the https protocol which is far more secure than wireless encryption per se. So, in short, yes I would use wireless to do online banking.
What I wouldn't do is use anybody's computer but my own to do online banking.

I online bank wherever I am when I need too. My online banking app is apparently so secure that I cannot call the bank anymore without doing via my app as they won't accept my being able to pass through security on a landline - ridiculous I know.
But I wouldn't fear using your banking app when you need to wherever you are.
