Why Does Motorbikes Have No Front Number Plate?

Sounds silly but its only occurred to me now, but why does motorcycles have no front number plate?

 

They can breeze past speed cameras because if the camera only detects the front of a vehicle, they can break speed limits and get away with it. 

 

How is this fair?

it used to be too dangerous to have the number plate on the front

It still is too dangerous. Motorbikes used to have them but they caused a lot of damage to pedestrians

Aye, the headlight, front forks and engine only gave a nasty nip on contact.

If they did have the front number plates they wouldn't be picked up by speed cameras - they can only be read side on

They were only dangerous because of how they were mounted, like a blade ready to slice. I'm sure if the will was there they could find a way for it be mounted differently; maybe a tank extension giving a rounded front to mark with the number.

Curved, front-facing number plates were common at one time, secured across the forks.

In any case some cameras read front plates, average speed ones for example, and other the rear plate.

But a lot of the speed cameras I see only scan the front of whatever vehicle is passing by. 

 

Motorcycles can speed by with zero detection to the owner or anything. How is this a fair rule?

Most of the UK's speed cameras are rearward facing to capture the rear number plate.

Yeah but that was eons ago. 

 

Surely they could be square and attached under the headlight or something?

 

All I'm saying is if it was a car with no front registration plate the police would stop you and fine you for not displaying a plate. 

 

Why should motorcyclists get away with it?
