HD TV

Hi,

I'm trying to set up HDTV for my father. I think I have probably done something wrong!

Just one question, do HD channels show up on the list of "gettable" channels regardless of a HD compatible box? Just need to know if we can get them, or if my set-up is wrong.

Assuming you're talking about freeview, HD channels will only show up if you have an HD tuner (either external or built into the TV)

Thanks ChuckFickens. Yes, I'm talking about Freeview, so that resolves that part of my problem!

Got the new box working fine, but it picked up no HD channels, so still unsure if we can get them or not. It's bound to be something I have done wrong, but I think the leads to fix were self explanatory!

The TV is HD "ready", so I clicked a menu within that and it said it could find "no new HD device".......puzzle.

HD ready means it is capable of displaying HD but requires an external source of some type to provide the HD signal.

OH, and for HD from an external source you need to use a HDMI lead, SCART leads do not support HD.

Freeview boxes come in at least two flavours....the normal Freeview which as no HD...Freeview HD which does.....which is yours?

Yep, that's what he has just bought. A Humax Hd recorder, the HD leads came with it. At least that's what he thought he's bought. Is there a chance that he still hasn't got all the relevant equipment?

The HDD refers to the Hard Drive recording - not High Definition reception ...

According to the Humax web site the PVR9300T is only Freeview and n ot Freeview HD.

.......then you should be good to go.....better read the set up manual again ....could be just your set up is wrong as you suggested...

Will call in the cavalry..... i.e young family members. I can do no more now! HD box or not....I have no blooming idea!

Slightly annoying, as he is a pensioner who assumed the HD logo on the box meant that it actually has a tuner.............he spent way more than he wanted to just get that. bummer.

It has got a tuner, just not a Freeview HD tuner (an ordinaroy Freeview tuner).

His TV will also have a Freeview tuner as well.

Cant he take the Humax box back and ask for a Freeview HD box?

p.s. I have to say the quality from Freeview (non HD) is excellent and unless his TV is a top of the range box he may notice little difference between Freeview and Freeview HD.
