This is taking it one step too far do you not think? It was annoying enough with actual people calling you up now they are alway automated.
How many other people get these and how often? I have had 2 already today. What are your thoughts on these calls?

I get them 4 or 5 times a week, i just hang up without speaking.

I did also.
I have a phone which registers callers number and if number looks iffy I don't answer.
I get at least one everyday and they are damn annoying as unlike real people they carry on with their spiel even if they get the answer phone.
What do you think the answer is to the problem, ukanonymous?
I get several every day

I now leave my answering machine on full time
Luckily I don't get them but my parents do. They get around 2 or 3 each day.
I leave my answerphone on all the time and just pick up if its someone I want to speak to. Got fed up of the number of cold callers and automated callers despite being on TPS.

I get the automated call saying 'Do not hang up this is important' if it really was important someone in real life/real time would call me.
I just put the phone down. The TPS who I am registered with tell me the calls come from abroad & they can do nothing about it.
It is really annoying when you just sit down to have your tea and you get one of these calls.
The money these companies make is when the recipient complies and presses the relevant number etc etc.

BT has a new phone that blocks nuisance calls, unknown numbers etc.

the tps
only applies to call from uk not from overseas NOR does it apply to pre-recorded calls from the uk
in all it pretty useless
A BT insider tells me that they could block all these calls with a few days work - it's dead simple to identify auto-diallers & maintain a 'clean list' of ones which are legitimate. Stopping 'hand dialled' spam is trickier, but perfectly possible with a little effort.

There is simply no will to do it though - BT (and the other phone companies) make money from carrying these calls - they are complicit in the fraud that is perpetrated upon the public.

Lobby your MP to get it stopped - not 'regulated' - just flumping well stopped.
I have had one from the same number everyday this week. I decided today enough now so I would ring back to tell them to remove this number and do not ring again. Did I get to do it no, only automated voice thanking me for calling.!?!?
Must average a couple a day, got three yesterday. Signed up to TPS years ago but as deggers316 said "its pretty useless" Went ex-directory last year, but still they keep phoning !!
I was under the impression it was illegal unless you'd given permission for them to contact you that way, not that it seems to stop any of them, neither does telephone preference stop them all either. If I don't recognise a number I'm liable to just lift and drop the receiver, so I can't count how many I get.
I have long suspected that what Sunny Dave says is the case - BT are making money here. We have gone to caller display. If we do not recognise the number, or if it is an overseas number, or they do not leave a message then they do not get picked up.
We're registered with CPS - brilliant service (you do have to pay but it's better than TPS). If a call does sneak through, you give CPS the number and they sort it for the future. We get hardly any spam calls these days at all.
