Computer Won't Come Out Of Sleep Mode ( I Think)

Hi, the lounge computer, a Packard Bell running windows 7, has just failed to 'wake up' when I tried to use it after it was in sleep mode since this morning. It's run via a Panasonic 65 inch TV as a monitor and is linked with a HDMI cable. I have tried restarting the computer, turning off the TV, changing the HDMI ports (Xbox etc is working fine on all HDMI ports), killing the power to both for half an hour and I'm now stuck as I can't get it to wake up so can't see to investigate it's sleepytime settings :(
Does anyone have any ideas please?

Have you tried removing the battery and replacing it after a few mins, that's my answer to everything computerish and usually works for me! Good luck.
Try pressing F8 several times also.
What about the lights on the computer? Is the power light lit? Does the hard disk access light indicate that there is any disk activity?
Question Author
Hi I just tried both of those ideas Neti, thank you for suggesting them, but still not happening :(
Yes there is activity, you can hear the disk start up and all the normal lights come on and I changed the keyboard and mouse from wireless to both USB and the old purple and green connections thinking it might not be receiving the wireless properly but still nothing. Really really stuck, it's never been any problem before.
When this happened to mine it was suggested that it could be the graphics card. Not sure if that may be the case for you?
hugely silly suggestion, when mine did that, there was a disc in the drive which a certain someone had forgotten about and the pc didn't know whether it was coming or going.
Question Author
Thank you Daisya, it might be, I think it might be beyond me to fix it today if so:)

There was actually a disc in it Alba when I looked so not a silly idea at all, but still doesn't start up when I took it out or when I put another disc into it.
Shari, can't say for certain, but it may well be starting up, but with no graphics.
Daisya mentioned the graphics card. Is it desktop?
Any other screen to use as a monitor just to check that it is a computer problem?
Question Author
Yes it's a Desktop. I'm looking for an old monitor cable at the moment and will try that and then try another monitor and let you know:)
Sorry Sharigan, no other suggestions, by this time I would usually drop the damned thing from a great height, it still wouldn't work, but I'd feel better.
Being a desktop, it's possible that it has a plugged-in graphics card rather than a built-in one.
If it's built-in, all you can check is the lead between the motherboard and the socket where the monitor pugs in. Unplug and reseat to see if a bad contact.

If it's a separate card, then pull it out and reseat it a few times just in case of a bad contact.
Why don't you leave it to your Dad to fix.? Or are you asking questions on his behalf. Lol

Finally got it sorted thank you to those who posted helpful answers. It still won't work now via HDMI but will work with a PC monitor connection.Bit weird but hey. Anyway thank you all very much.
Alston, what a quaint and charming suggestion. The slight problem with that is that my father doesn't and hasn't lived with us for a number of years and spends a great deal of his time in the Ukraine, so it's usually just my mother and I ( and her boyfriend when he's not away, which he is at present). I was in the house on my own when I asked, is that okay with you? Because if it isn't I really do feel my life might be at an end, that's how much of a flying fig I give about your opinion. Oh yeah, nearly forgot ... "Lol"( just to show it's all good natured banter and all).
You on the other hand must have near super human powers to know so much about my father since you are such a new user and I doubt would have known him. Oh yeah "Lol" ( which rhymes with 'troll' by a happy coincidence ;-)
Lol.
My goodness Shari as a mere male I would hate to upset you.
If it is of any help to you I use my Panasonic tv as my pc monitor connected via a SVGA cable as below.

Thanks Ron, that's how we now have it connected. It's odd it always worked perfectly with HDMI but just doesn't seem to want to behave anymore and will only work now via SVGA.
Don't worry about me I'm in a great mood, it's poor old 'Alston' who seems hung up ;-)
Cheers Shari. Help me out here, I do not have an HDMI connection on my PC tower so how did you have it connected ?

On the PC we have in the lounge there is an HDMI port which I plugged into one of the 3 TV HDMI ports, and it had always just worked (as long as you had the ports selected on the TV). Now it won't do that for some reason but other things work both through all the TV HDMI ports and also the computer HDMI works just not on this TV anymore. Weird.I'm slightly confused why that is, but it isn't really deeply impacting because it's now working via SVGA.
