Firefox

When I open Firefox I am getting a split page showing a left panel that I would like to remove can someone please help.

Looking at the pic I can't tell if the "UNIVERSAL MUSIC" splash is part of the left or right pane.
You may find, though, that if you move your cursor across the vertical scrollbar it will turn from an arrow into a horizontal line with a small arrow at each end. If that happens, hopefully you can click and drag the divider over to the left.

Go to the View menu and select Sidebar - is it listed there and, if so, do you recognise the name?

If all else fails . . .

Go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions.
Note down the names of the Add-ons that you're using (because you'll need to reinstall them).
Close the Add-ons Manager tab.

Then go to Help > Troubleshooting Information.
Click 'Reset Firefox' (at the top right).
Firefox will then be returned to its original state (but with all of your bookmarks, etc intact).
Reinstall your add-ons.

ron.... I am sorry to say it, but it does appear that you do get yourself into difficulties by trying different e/mail programmes. I think at one time you were advocating Incredimail as something special and now you appear to be using..inbox.

HI Al. You are right but perhaps you have indirectly pinpointed the problem I'm getting with Firefox. When I click to open Firefox that is the page that opens ( the one shown in Tinypic) I need to ask the question is Inbox part of Firefox ? If not I haven't a clue where it has come from. I have this morning uninstalled & re installed Firefox & have the same result.

I have also put Superantispyware through this morning ( 2nd time in 2 days) so I repeat again What is the programme Inbox & where has it come from ?

Re-set your homepage as well, looks as it may have been changed when you picked up the toolbar.

Thought you were using SeaMonkey? You need to keep your browser lean and clean, with as few toolbars, addons as possible. Otherwise they will only cause problems and slow you down. IE is slow because of too many extras, although I've noticed a slight improvement in IE10.

Most free software, downloaded from the web, comes with the offer of 'extras' such as toolbars and other browser add-ons. (Quite a few offer the Inbox toolbar, for example). Such 'extras' are nearly always pre-selected for you; you have to actively remove the tick alongside the offer to get out of receiving something that you don't want. It seems that you've downloaded and installed something without noticing that, unless you chose otherwise, the Inbox toolbar would be added on. (Don't worry too much about it; we've nearly all done it a few times!).

Cheers Ron......I think you now need to get rid of 'inbox' and posters in this thread have given you a number of useful suggestions. Please come back if you are still in difficulties because, although I may not have the answer,I feel sure that there will be a respondent who will assist getting things back to normality'

Incidentally, as your OS is W7 I would have thought that your e/mail programme should really be Windows Live Mail; which brings all communications directly into your computer. Personally, I don't trust 'web mail' such as g/mail; yahoo; hotmail etc.

Thanks all due to splendid answers Firefox now clear. The only reason I was persisting with this is because although I prefer Seamonkey I sometimes have a glitch or two & want Firefox as an alternative.
Alston do you feel that Windows Live Mail is a better email prog than Gmail ? I do have Outlook Email ( Hotmail) but am using G mail at present.
I would be interested to read your views on this.

Hi again Ron.......This is now where I could be getting out of my depth and hoping that Chris is around to rescue me.

I have a desktop computer and a laptop. Desktop OS is Windows Vista with Windows Mail directly into the computer and Laptop is W7 with Windows live mail; also directly into lappy,but a different e/mail address.

Consequently as both e/mail addresses allow communications to come direct into both pieces of equipment, I Do Not have to go to a web site to pick-up my mail. It is a bit like saying that my post is delivered direct to the letterbox in my front door and does not involve my going to the local post office to pick-up mail.

How it all works is still something of a mystery but, from all I have read on the subject, it seems that 'web mail' such as g/mail; outlook(hotmail) etc are more likely to be attacked than dedicated accounts into ones computer.

The best email service for me (and, consequently, the one I actually use) is GMX:

Unlike some other services, it doesn't append ads to either incoming or outgoing mail (or scan mail to select adverts for you). It simply places ads down the right-hand-side of the web page, in the same way that AB does. (Which means that people using the Adblock Plus browser extension don't see any ads anyway).

Alternatively, if you'd rather use an email client (such as Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird) to access your mail, instead of a web page, GMX supports that as well. Instructions here:

One small problem however,
I have opened a gmx account Chris but cannot get it to accept details of my gmail account in order to forward emails & contact list is this a normal problem or just me ?
