I imagine that with a new system you will be forever plagued with years of further updates until they get it properly sorted out and then they'll suggest that you update again.
If it's working OK, why change unless it can't cope with some particular program or aspect which you are using.?

XP is not "ending" and will go on working fine after April 2014.
All that is happening is that Microsoft are ending official support.
But thousands of companies are still using XP so I am sure Microsoft will still supply fixes for important problems.
p.s. Having said that if you are still running a computer with XP it may be time to buy a new one.
You will be amazed a zippy a new computer will be, but go for Windows 7 don't go for Windows 8.
After all, you don't still drive a Ford Anglia do you?

I have used all the Windows releases and Windows 7 has been the best of the lot.
It is also far safer security wise than XP.
It is also a much nicer, cleaner interface. I have 5 PCs in the house and a laptop and they are all W7.
I am sure anyone who was on XP and moved to W7 would soon admit it is much nicer to use.

Err... no. One has to put up with further annoyances like windows deciding to change size when put near the edge, and garbage hiding the screen when the cursor happens to go over the icons at the bottom. Every version of Windows has a load more irritations one has to become accustomed to. Must be done deliberately to show they have actually worked on something and so can charge you the earth for a new OS.
